Severn Trent calling to say I've been on the wrong sort of account? Anyone had this, or understand?
I had a really confusing call from Severn Trent earlier. They started by telling me I had been on 'the wrong sort of account' which can sometimes affect credit ratings (?) and were phoning customers to change them over to a new 'standard' account. They told me I have credit on my account, which I could either have…

Water Meter Installed - Should Sewage Cost Also Reduce?
My water is supplied by Anglian water. I recently went onto a water meter, and it halved my bill to around £20 per month. My sewage is supplied by Severn Trent but has stayed static at £450per year. I have 2 questions. 1) Is £450 sewage per year excessive for a 3 bed detached house in the North? 2) Should I have expected…

Right to claim from water utility company following hosepipe ban?
We are a two person household under Yorkshire Water paying £57.20 per month under the fixed tariff. As a gardener we had chosen not to be metered as we enjoy taking care of the garden with the hosepipe, we run a pond and have a few vehicles to wash regularly, we also consider we would have a family in the future. A 4…

Thames Water/Water Meter/Advanced Charging
Water bill seemed to be too high. Contacted Thames water, our serial number on the WM doesn't match their records. Still trying to get that issue sorted, not convinced we aren't paying for someone else's water (there has only ever been one WM installed, been in the property since 2003) Upon analysing the bills it seems…

Thames Water Meter and No Access rate
Been pestered by TW to book a water meter survey date, doe's anyone know what the "No Access" charge / rate will be if I tell them to go away / ignore the letter. The reason for this is that years back when we were out shopping and we came home to find that we could not park on our drive because TW had turned up and dug…

Follow on from check your utilities now post
I checked my mother's Thames Water account. Sure enough she was in credit by over 100. While this was refunded promptly, the person taking the call tried to up her direct debit from £14 to £33. It took some persuading to get her to leave it at £14. I will be checking monthly for mum from now on. Obviously we will be sure…

Leaving owners lied about the water meter amount, 3 months later I get a bill. It's massive!
We moved into our new flat at end of June this year. Previous owners had been there 6 years (it was a new build)To be honest, we had a fractious relationship with the previous owner, which is relevant to this post. When we moved in, the estate agent asked for the water meter readings so the previous owner could let Thames…

Issues with waterbill at business/industrial property
I suspect I have an incorrect bill and phoning the company really doesn't help much as they swear blind everything is in order and I need to pay it but I don't know how to get evidence that it's either correct or incorrect. I rent an industrial unit, it's the size of a double garage at 600Sqft. We use it to restore some…

Insurance covering water loss
Hello. I am with Affinity Water. Around 10 years ago there was a leak under our driveway that we only became aware of when a bill for £34000 arrived! Affinity fixed it and cancelled the bill. 2 years ago we had a problem internally and also a bill for around £500 was cancelled. Affinity say that we are allowed 1 internal…

How much water (in litres) do you use?
So, Family of 4 here, with 2 pre teenage boys. for the past couple of months we have been using 940 litres a day according to metered readings. Use the washing machine maybe twice every 3 days, cook most nights. Does that usage seem reasonable? Must admit i was a little shocked with such a high daily number.

Surface water rebate 6+ years
Hi, has anyone had success claiming more than a 6 year rebate for being charged for surface water disposal? We have recently received a 6 year rebate as we realised that we have a soakaway. When I checked my paperwork from when we bought the house (from new), there was an Anglian Water letter stating that the developer…

Advice please on water pipe repairs on my property
Hi everyone, I've received a letter from Severn Trent Water saying they're sending someone round to fix a leak on my property and I'll be responsible for the cost! I understand that this may well be the law, but... things are complicated by the fact that there are 4 of us in a row of terraces that share a supply. I'm the…

Thames Water haven’t set up my account
Hi there. in 2020 I moved into a new build house and dutifully reported the move to Thames Water. After a few months I realised that they were no longer taking any payment out of my account and contacted them to ask what was happening. They couldn’t find my address although could see that I had sent them change of address…

Landlady won't have work done to enable a water meter to be installed
Hello, I recently moved into a rental property and asked the water company for a meter to be installed. They sent a plumber who did a survey and told me that the property has no internal stop tap (only an "isolation valve"), and that I need to ask my landlady to have the back of a kitchen cupboard cut away to make room for…

Billed twice in 4 months?
Good afternoon, I recently had a problem with water, without it for days. Due to this I was due compensation. When my neighbours received their compensation and I hadn’t, I queried it with United Utilities. I was told it was because I was in arrears. I didn’t think I was. Granted, a few years ago I was on a payment…

immersion heater
I have an electric immersion heater which I’m only putting on now three days a week for 2.5 hours. I was wondering if this was the most economical way to use the heater. The heater has two elements top and bottom. Would it be better just to use the boost feature which I think just heats the top part of the tank or should I…
