Water bill doubled ‘based on usage’, can I appeal/dispute?

Options
So my water bill doubled from £20 to almost £40, the letter says ‘based on my usage’ but my usage has not changed.

Does anyone know how they truly calculate this? Can I appeal it or dispute it?

Has your water company recently put their prices up?

Presumably you have a water meter ? In my case they read the meter every 6 months so know my water consumption and base the bill going forward on that consumption ......simples.

Unless you have a water meter you can't tell -   perhaps you have that steadily running leak from the toilet cistern into the pan or a broken pipe in your garden.
Never pay on an estimated bill

If it's "bsed on your usage", there will be meter readings given. How do they compare with previous periods?

Thanks for your input all I appreciate it - I was confused as my water usage has increased by 9.25% but the bill has increased by 83.33%, but what it actually was was an adjustment in my direct debit based on being in arrears since the last monthly payment was calculated last year, it was too low. I still can't believe it costs this much. Is anyone else paying this much?

My water bill, for supply and sewage, I'd about £30 a month but I don't have any arrears.
    Yours doesn't seem unusual.

After trying twice to get a water meter installed by Welsh Water I apparently can't have one...no idea really why. So they estimate my bills. I live alone and am not a big user but still have to pay £366 this year which is £30.50 a month. In my previous house where I had a meter I paid about £18/month.
