British Gas statements incomprehensible to a newbie
I'm trying to make sense of what seems to be an erroneous gas bill on the BG gas dashboard. BG's claimed consumption is much greater than my normal usage. The numbers on the statement do not line up with the actual meter readings, some of which I photographed. So to get me started, does anyone know how an actual gas meter…

Provider Transfer
I decided to transfer my provider few weeks ago from OLD to NEW - better not give names - and it was carried out 26th December 2024/27th December 2024. So far so good. Couple days later I went into OLD on line account to transfer £600 of my credit back into my account - I was more or less £800 in credit and the final GAS…

Suspected energy theft
I have a device which wraps around mains cables in the distribution box and shows power usage - it shows there to be a continuous 50W drain when all switches are off except for the circuit marked 'kitchen'. In the kitchen all circuit breakers are off (hob, oven, central heating boiler) and all plugged-in devices are…

Business Energy contract
Hi, Need some advise please. My friend has signed 3 contracts via energy consultant from beginning to the end it was nothing but series of lies. Ombudsman also sided with them even though energy company couldn't provide the phone records or anything and upon asking for evidence they provide the wrong contract. So he is…

Is it normal to get billed every month??
Hi all. I've been with British Gas for about 2 months and I've been getting billed on a monthly basis. Is that right ? I thought it was every 3 months? I also pay by debit card instead of having a direct debit. Not sure if that makes any difference. Thanks.

Setting thermostatic radiator valves
Hello, so one of these things or yes more precisely (counts) 5 of them (the following information is a guess and may be wrong, if you're a heating engineer, please feel free to correct me) In a nutshell, what is the best number setting? I was thinking that keeping the dial number as low as possible (3 1/2 or 4 practically)…

So Energy 2 yr fix
I noticed that So Energy have a 2 yr fixed rate deal. Is it a good idea to fix for 2 years or would it be better for 1 year only? I realise no one has a crystal ball but they are saying the prices are going to go up in April as well. Just wanted to get people's opinions Thank you.

Is the…

My fixed contract ends on 1st Feb. (Ive already claimed hundreds of £ of them for their errors but I…

Octopus Accounts nuked by Octopus!
This really isn't my day..... Well if I thought BG are bad Octopus now comes a really close second. As of this week, suddenly no access to mine or my father's energy accounts. No online access, no app access and my phone number not recognised as belonging to an account. And apparently no audit trails for such changes made…

why are energy companies pushing smart meters? what's the catch??
Hi all, I recently moved, switched to utility warehouse for gas/elec. Everything went fine, but I started getting phone calls, sometimes twice a day, from sales people trying to get me to install a smart meter. While they're not rude, they're very pushy and don't even ask if I want one, jumping straight to engineers'…

Pulsacoil Thermal Store and high bills!
I bought a 1 bed basement flat at the start of September. It is electric only and is fitted with a PulsaCoil Thermal Store to heat my water. I was told to keep the main tank plug on and the top immersion heater off and to only turn it on if I need a top up. My flat also has a small utility area with a tiny dishwasher, but…

British Gas late bills after switch
Hi there, I'm new on here but have tried searching if anyone else has had issues with British Gas like I'm having now. I switched to EDF energy in April and had an outstanding balance of £400 and I set up a payment plan to pay that back and have never missed a payment. A few weeks ago I got a text then an email saying I…
