Price Cap

Ofgem set the energy price cap so considering the energy companies are making so much profit, couldn't Ofgem not increase the price cap or the very least limit it to say 5%
for the next two years?
I understand that in some countries the government have stated that their energy companies cannot increase customers account by more than 5%. Is this something our government could do or too scared to do?
Also the increase in Standing charges are, in my opinion, just an excuse to get more money sneakily. I feel the energy companies use any excuse they can think of to get more money.
It truly scandalous. How are we going to cope?????????

It’s not the energy supply companies that are making the huge profits but the production companies. The energy supply (billing) companies operate on a knifes edge which is why several have gone bust over the last couple of years.0
