Heat Pump - KwZ usage through the roof
Hi, We moved to a newbuild in March 2021 with gas and electric provided by heat pump. Each year, we are using around 17,000 kWh, according to British Gas, and spending more than £5,500 in the process. We are a family of two (and a dog) and it's an average-sized 4-bed house. The heat pump installer insists that there is no…

A2A Heat Pump / Air Con
As with the 29/5/2025 changes I understand that it's possible to install air con / A2A heat pump without planning permission? We don't have radiators / gas at the property and air to water heat pump costs even after grant were just too high, hence I was thinking of getting A2A mostly for heating and casual 5-7 days a year…

Beko Heatpump dryer woes DHR83431W
Myself and my wife purchased one of the new heatpump tumble driers by Beko from AO online… Given that these are more energy efficient we were hoping it might save us some cash. Now two years in (out of warantee) with light usage the dryer won’t heat. I was hoping the forum may have some advice for us in our predicament. I…

Power Cut - Heat Pump Evaporator Iced Up
We had a power cut last night and 1 hour later power was restored. The heat pump was iced prior to the power going out. Once power was restored the unit powered up again and after 30 minutes I became nervous that the evaporator was at -20C, fully iced up, hardly any air flow across the evaporator, so I have shut it down.…

Winter Holidays and Heat Pumps
I was talking to someone about getting a heat pump to replace their gas boiler. They spend several months during the winter away from home. With their current heating, it is on the frost setting, so the boiler only starts up when it is below 5 degrees and therefore costs very little. What is the situation with a heat pump?

Modulation - what is your experience?
So my (space heating only) heat pump still doesn't run full time at 4C outside temp (about 50 mins on and 10 mins off) but does at 3C to maintain 21C inside when it is outputting about 5kw. Once it does run continuously it does so at about 1.5kw so this is clearly the lowest it will go. When it starts and stops it actually…

Help needed please - just moved and can't figure out the heating/hot water
As title... we've just moved to a bungalow which has an ASHP and underfloor heating. It was reasonably mild when we moved but has turned chillier in the last few days and we've been trying to figure out how it all works. No manuals or instructions were left and we haven't elicited any useful information from Google,…

New to Heatpumps
HI, Can anyone advise me? I'm new to Heatpumps (Just had one fitted and Solar on the roof) and currently looking to change my electricity tariff. There doesn't seem to be any comparison site for Heatpump tariffs. If I've got my numbers right it looks like EDF is the cheapest by about £30 a month. And all supplier's are…

Air to air heat pump?
Hello everyone. I’m in the process of renovating a 1950s 3 bed semi, and my priorities are insulation and heating. The current heating system is old storage heaters, and immersion for hot water. I’ve been researching different heating systems for a while now, and would appreciate any input to help in my decision. I’ve…

Using ASHP in an Ad Hoc Fashion?
Hi all, so like the idea of heat pumps using renewable energy but I'm struggling to see how one would fit our use case, so knowledgeable people's insight would be greatly appreciated. I know they are most efficient running to keep the house a a certain temperature, so running a lot of the time, but we have never used…

I don't understand how temperature is regulated with my ASHP
I have a Vaillant aroTherm Plus 5kW heat pump and a SensoComfort 720f thermostatic controller. The SensoComfort has a control called a heat curve which determines my system's flow temperature for any given outside temperature. But there is also a control to set the desired ambient temperature. What I don't understand is…

Does a GSHP make sense in a Grade 2 listed building in need of complete renovation
Just bought a property and would like to go GSHP for max efficiency and environmental reasons but not sure I am making a good decision. Facts are : * Grade 2 2/3 bed detached property in 0.75 acres. Brick and rendered with slate roof plus lime plaster walls and ceilings. Some concrete floors downstairs and some wood joist…

A2A heat pump: split or monobloc?
I have been looking to install an air-to-air heat pump as a heater for a workshop room at the back of our (detached) garage. I need about 12000 BTU and Appliances Direct sell split systems for about £600. But most of these require an f-gas certified installer and the few that don't presumably still need someone with…

Heat geek design consultation worth paying £250 for?
I read a few threads suggesting getting a quote from Heat geek. Received a quote of £3350 for installation of Vaillant aroTHERM plus 10kW including upgrading 2 radiators. Is it worth paying £250 for the design consultation? I received a quote from Octopus couple of months back and I still have time to decide. The reviews…

Heat pump or existing oil burner?
Hello, newbie here. I live in NE in old mid terrace with heating/hot water by 12 yr old "very efficient" Bosch condensing oil burner. My local council (Durham) has said I'm eligible for grant aid to replace oil burner with ASHP (about which I know nothing) but not solar. What would other members do / advise if they were in…

A2W for HW only - already have A2A heating/cooling
I had aircon* put into half the house a couple of years ago, after nearly boiling in the summer. It has been brilliant, both summer and winter. So I'm now looking at another unit for the rest of the house, which leaves me in HOT WATER!! I've seen the videos from Heat Geek, but they really don't offer much detailed info…

A2A quote for aircon
Asked a local company for a quote on installing aircon for two bedrooms as the newbuild house gets too hot and the windows dont face the direction of wind in the summer. To avoid installing ugly outdoor units for regular air con, as the windows open on to the road in front, the surveyor suggested installing an air 2 air…

ASHP Quotes
I have an oil boiler and am off the gas grid. I’ve been getting quotes for supply and fit of a 14 kW ASHP and 250 L cylinder. The engineers that visited confirmed that my radiators and pipework are fine as is. I tried local MCS-listed installers and also big energy companies. All quotes came in around £15 k, minus the…
