Hybrid ASHP / Heat battery option: thoughts appreciated.
As my oil boiler is misbehaving, I’m thinking this might be
a good time for me to start planning a move to an ASHP. I suspect my running
costs could end up being a bit higher than with oil and though I can accept
this, I’d like to narrow the gap as much as I can. I use about 2000l per year at a cost of – let’s say -…

Going from Coal to Air Heat Source Pump and PV's using ECO4 grant scheme
We have a choice stay as we are G rated house coal powered house or use the Government grant scheme ECO4 and go to a B rated house air heat source pump and solar powered house. Which is going to be cheaper to run the coal or the use less but more expensive electric? I am nervous changing.

Troubleshooting
The flow and return from the heat pump to the cylinder has this valve on each pipe, part at the top has a little hole and there is a gargling sound as air is coming out but there is also a small puddle of water on the floor below. Very grateful for any advice on what's happening here please. Edited to add, I think it's…

My ASHP Journey in Bonnie Scotland.
We have our new ASHP - just three weeks now and I want to get the best from it. As it was part funded by a renewables grant we also had a phenomenal amount of additional insulation put in the attic. We have 2 zones - upstairs and downstairs. I have so far left the settings as put by the installer. 20 downstairs 18…

Complex Leak in system after Heat Pump Install
Hi, I thought I would look here to get some information, as I seem to be going round in circles with Octopus. Last December I had a Daikin heat pump installed through Octopus, it was a painful process to get that far but I was excited when it went in. Since then though it's really not been smooth sailing. I noticed almost…

ASHP Quotes
I have an oil boiler and am off the gas grid. I’ve been getting quotes for supply and fit of a 14 kW ASHP and 250 L cylinder. The engineers that visited confirmed that my radiators and pipework are fine as is. I tried local MCS-listed installers and also big energy companies. All quotes came in around £15 k, minus the…

Tank or Instant Heater for Hot Water
Octopus are visiting us this week to quote for replacing our 10 year old gas boiler with a heat pump. We actually don't use a lot of hot water and it's always seemed odd to me to keep a tank full heated and ready. Aside from shower (which is a thermostat mixer type so we need a hot water feed) and washing up we quite…

Heat pump quote
Hi, we have received a heat pump quote from Octopus and wanted to get the thoughts of forum members if its worth the switch. Using gas boiler currently, with heating turned on only if necessary, consuming roughly 4200 kWh a year as ours is a mid terrace property. The quote is 2.9k for eco and 2.5k for the turbo version.…

Two ‘misleading’ heat pump adverts banned by UK watchdog
A week after the Advertising Standards Authority banned an Octopus Energy ad that claimed consumers could have a heat pump installed for as little as £500, it has taken action against adverts from the home heating supplier Aira and from EDF Energy. The ASA found that the two ads, which appeared online, omitted key…

Bonus benefits of heat pumps
Outdoor "air conditioning". I was doing some fairly heavy work in the garden, and was a bit of a sweaty mess, when I noticed the ASHP had fired up to do the hot water. Stood in front of the fan for a few minutes and was restored to cool as a cucumber status. Have you found any unexpected features in your installation?
