Just had a survey and quote and just for the bedroom at this stage a single unit quoted £1225 all in.

Hopefully fitted before 16th June before the installer goes on holiday and before the next ramp up of heat.

Daikin unit so the budget end of the scale (5 year warranty) but realistically they must all be much of a muchness these days.

That's a pretty good price. Do keep us updated with progress - we haven't had a good "install" thread for a while!

2.5kw Daikin Sensira RXF25E outdoor with the FTXF25E indoor unit.

Bedroom is only 4m X 4m with built in wardrobes taking away capacity as well as eaves one side so this should do the job nicely. It might even flow into the ensuite and keep that cool as well.

Let's see how it goes, install on the 15th June.

In my experience (very similar kit) assuming your bedroom is upstairs, with the door left open the unit will make a serious dent in the temperature of the whole house on warm days.

Ah that is fantastic news, I was hoping it might be able to knock a few degrees off all round if needed but feared if I said a smaller unit would be possibly capable of such a thing the naysayers would descend lol.

Looking forward to it being installed and trying it all out even more now !

Yeah, if you have two floors that's something to keep in mind - it will do really well in summer for cooling and not so well in winter. Heat goes up, cool air goes down. I can heat whole house in winter with unit downstairs but in summer downstairs stays nice and cool while upstairs still feels tropical with 30°C 😅

That's interesting! I'm in the early days of thinking about putting a 12kBTU unit in our open-plan lounge and it's open to our stairs. Sounds like it might make a useful contribution to heating the bedrooms too.

Our two 3.5kW A2A units are downstairs, and between the warmth that goes up the stairs and I suspect through the ceilings, the upstairs needs very little heating. Short top up use of oil rads is more than enough in the coldest periods.

And even then, we could probably do without the top up, just by running the A2A units a degree or so higher, but don't want it too warm downstairs.

Edit - Just thought I should add that home radiators may be a good clue with regard to this issue. Whilst our downstairs rads were all long and double panel, double fin, our upstairs rads were all small(ish) 900mm single panel/fin rads, and the TRV's were set at a lower temp.

During the first A2A winter (2024/25) we did have a small oil rad in our main bedroom. 400W and timed for late evening through cheap night rate use. But we found that too hot, probbaly due to heat coming through the floor, from the A2A in the room below. So last winter we didn't have any supplemental heating.

However, a change of thought/approach is needed. For instance all the rooms upstairs have closers fitted, designed to mostly close the doors. Previously I would remove the push bars during the non-heating months, then add them back when the heating came on. The aim being to keep the heat from the rads in the rooms. But now, I've removed the closers, to keep doors wide open, so heat can spread/circulate better from downstairs.

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 28kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
