Mitsubishi Ecodan Air Source Heat Pump- Don`t buy!

Please be aware if you fit one of these they do not last! You may get a grant and it looks a good deal to replace your gas or oil boiler but don`t do it! I had a new Mitsubishi Ecodan ASHP in my flat. It was sited on an outside wall but was always going wrong and at 8 years old half of it had rusted away and fell off the wall. The unit was condemned and I was told £10,000 just to replace it. I contacted Mitsubishi but they did`nt want to know, very poor customer service. I am no replacing it with an Electric boiler at only £1500 as there is no gas in this village, which may be more expensive to run but you can buy a lot of electricity for the difference in price to buying another useless ASHP.

    Welcome to the forum!

Can I take it from your user name that you're in Callington, east Cornwall?

It was sited on an outside wall but was always going wrong and at 8 years old half of it had rusted away and fell off the wall.

Did your annual service pick up anything?

The unit was condemned and I was told £10,000 just to replace it.

Who gave you that quote? Did you get a second quote from anyone? A replacement heat pump should be available for under £4k, possibly as low as £2k (depending on brand).

It will definitely be more expensive to run. And £1500 isn't all that much cheaper than the price you should be able to get a heat pump for.

I know the sea air in Torbay is very corrosive, even in the house it took out a load of "stainless steel" cabinet handles (chinese s/s) and my motorcycle needs constant attention, so probably down to the air more than anything else
