Is there a slimline heat pump?
I've been considering a heat pump, but the only place I could install one is along the side of my semi-detached house, which has 1.3m to the fence and I need to be able to get past to go to my side gate.
The issue is that the units typically have single large front-mounted fans which need clearance at the front and back for the airflow, so a 450mm unit needs too much space and is simply impractical for me.
Are there any slimline (maybe side-to-side flow) units available which could be placed flat against a wall?

Some have gone for a wall mounted solution, above head height.
There are noise level restrictions though so hopefully your neighbour doesn't have a window on that side of the property…
It will also make maintenance more expensive.
There are no 'slimline' versions of A2W heat-pumps as far as I know.

The Octopus Cosy models appear to go close to the wall and the outlet is upward, at 45 degrees, which means you have got the usual front clearance to deal with.

I don't think the unit you want exists but A2A may be an option?

Thanks for the thoughts.
I don't like the idea of placing one overhead.
OTOH, I might have a rethink, as it could align with putting a canopy along that side of the house.
I've looked at the Octupus one (I am with Octopus), but they are large in themselves and look like Mr Blobby meets a dustbin.
A2A could be a consideration, but then I'd have to fit ducting around the house.
I could potentially do my kitchen and landing off that wall though, which would be a central feed.
One attraction of A2A systems is they can also work as air conditioning in the Summer.

A2A AFAIK doesnt use ducting - it isn't an old fashioned central air ducted system - its a central chiller / heater - that pumps refrigerant cooling/heating fluid - to wall mounted slimline fan units. Like those you might see in hotel rooms etc

If you want more info on A2A, here's a thread from @danrv who fitted one some years ago:

Thanks for that info - I'm now looking at A2A.
The idea of heating in the winter and cooling in the summer is attractive.
It seems there are systems which can do boiler heating too, but I'm not how that works if you want to be cooling the house.

Remember that Air-to-Water may get a £7500 grant but £2500 for Air-to-Air. Nothing's ever simple !

Yep.
The A2A grant also requires you to ditch your gas boiler.

And storage heaters?
