There is a reason why the US consumes far more energy than the civilised world. They do everything wrong, like driving about in ridiculously inefficient pick up trucks, using ducted air instead of water based heating systems and putting heat pumps too close to walls.

Are you planning single-storey extensions with a flat roof? If so, then the heat pump can go on the roof.

    6.4kWp (16 * 400Wp REC Alpha) facing ESE + 5kW Huawei inverter + 10kWh Huawei battery. Buckinghamshire.

The rear one will have a sloped roof and solar panels will be on it.

I wouldn't want a heat pump under any of the bedroom windows.

Sticking a HP on a flat roof, and it could act like a sound board unless really good isolation mounts are used. Then there is the fall risk to consider when ever anyone needs to get up there to service it.

These things are best kept at ground level (in my opinion) unless there is no option but to stick it up in the air.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
