Is there an idiots guide?
We had a heat pump and solar panels under the eco grant last year. It’s been one long hassle. As seems to be common, the pre-installation information was deceptive - we were told our boiler would be ‘replaced’ not that they would be installing a space ship that took up 1/3 of a bedroom. We were left with a huge manual that…

ECO4 Grant
We have had the above grant, fitted in December. Solar panels, heat source heat pump, radiators, plus we agreed to buy a battery. It is the worst decision we have made. Our electricity bill is huge our consumption since installing in December is 4000kw. How can this be right, the installers haven't fitted the battery right…

How much gets replaced / how disruptive is it when fitting a heat pump?
Hello. We have a gas boiler that we expect has a good number of years useful life left in it, so are not looking to replace in the short term. I have heard that the radiators will almost certainly have to be replaced, but what about the pipes to the rads? Our rads are fed by microbore pipes and last year the property had a…

Heat pump tariff vs EV tariff vs fixed rate.
We've just had a heat pump installed and I drive an EV. The, almost mandatory, smart meter is being fitted next week. I have hit a minefield of energy tariffs. My car only needs charging twice a week which I try to do on bright (sunny) days taking advantage of our roof top PV's. All tariffs give low price at some time of…

180l tank for 2 people
I need a slimline tank for my install (just me then daughter every other week too) and octopus want to install a 180l tank that’s 475cm x 1880. This seems massive and I wondered if anyone had a thin tank installed that’s smaller size ? Im worried about the costing of heating water I won’t use

Octopus ASHP
Well, what can I say. Great service, lots of it, but issues are not getting resolved. OCTOPUS ENERGY AIR SOURCE HEAT PUMPS been through the rigorous process to installation, and had all my rads replaced,HW tank installed, super friendly staff. Electrician was a nightmare.. ruined a lot of deocr. Notwithstanding, main…

ECO4 ASHP, Solar and insulation
Hi All, We qualify for an ECO4 grant and have been approved for the following work. I'm in the very early stages of figuring out if this is something we should go for, and need some advice and pointers along the way. At the moment, I don't know what I don't know so please feel free to educate me - I'll tell you what I do…

Is it a financial no brainer to get a battery system if you are getting a heat pump?
Suppose you use 5,000kwh of hot water and 12,000kwh of heat per year and assume the scop for hot water is 2.5 and for heat is 3.5. Assume a tariff with 7p night rate and 25p day rate available if you have a battery or 25p all units if not. Assume you can only heat hot water at night and use 30% of your heat at night rate…

Heat pump warranty
Have recently got a quote from Octopus which says that the heat pump is guaranteed for 5 years. I don't have experience in heat pumps but the gas boilers I've got installed both have a warranty of 10 years. Is 5 years normal for an HP?

Heat Pump - Is it working or is it just rubbish?
So I had a new heat pump installed in November. I have two issues: 1. I appreciate they have to work harder in winter but my house always feels cold. Occasionally it's 'not cold' but it's never warm. My radiators never feel hot like they did with my old gas boiler. They just feel warm at best. Is that normal? Is the idea…

Does a GSHP make sense in a Grade 2 listed building in need of complete renovation
Just bought a property and would like to go GSHP for max efficiency and environmental reasons but not sure I am making a good decision. Facts are : * Grade 2 2/3 bed detached property in 0.75 acres. Brick and rendered with slate roof plus lime plaster walls and ceilings. Some concrete floors downstairs and some wood joist…

Consumer Energy Solutions offering grant for heat pumps, etc: Opinions?
Hi all. Has anyone heard of Consumer Energy Solutions? They are certainly keen to arrange a date to assess whether I can receive a grant to the tune of 20k for home insualation, heat pump, etc?

EV and Air Source Heat Pump!
I wonder if anyone is in the same position as me. I’ve got an EV and home charger that are not eligible for Intelligent Octopus Go and am having an ASHP installed this week. Is there a best energy rate for these two? I have been looking at the difference between Octopus Go and Cosy Octopus and seeking other suppliers, but…

COP - diminishing returns on investment?
A bit of a thought experiment, so bear with me.We can all hopefully agree that a COP of 5 is great, a COP of 3 is kinda OK and a COP of 2 is poor. There are plenty of threads where people give hints and tips on how to improve your COP. But what's it worth spending to get that better COP?Imagine, if you will, a household…

Hybrid Heat Pump Scotland Funding
Good morning all. I am exploring a hybrid heat pump for my home. I currently have a worcester system boiler and unvented cylinder. I have had a heat loss calculation at 6.5kw. I am considering a Vaillant arotherm plus 7kw unit with a 250L unistor cylinder and a Vaillant system boiler. I know MCS changed the rules about…

Heat Pump Sizing?
Octopus suggested their biggest unit, 11.2kw but is that the right size I currently have a modulating boiler with weather comp and a smart meter so I know that the boiler runs at a steady 8.2kw (gas input) to maintain the house temp at 20c when the outdoor temp is 0 degrees (flow temp low 50s C). It uses a fair bit less…

Fan Alarm
We have quite an elderly Nibe 2005 Fighter - commissioned in June 2009, and recently it has been shutting down with a Fan Alarm. Nothing about this in the manual. Our engineer says he thinks the only solution is to replace the whole fan assembly (at considerable cost!) but the fan will often work (continuously) for several…
