in Heat pumps
I am getting nowhere in getting my energy company to switch me to an electricity only tariff after installation of a heat pump. I have no gas appliances. Can anyone help or advise please

You would need to have the gas meter removed and the supply capped.1

Ask them to remove the supply, the only guaranteed way to stop the daily charge. There will be a cost to remove the meter. You could also investigate zero standing charge suppliers although there's not many now.1

You need to get your gas meter removed and the supply capped. Your current suppler can arrange for this. I know Octopus will get this done for free but others may charge.0

Octopus were absolutely first rate when we had our gas supply removed. From requesting to getting it done was a couple of weeks. Zero cost to us too. We didn't even go with Octopus to get the heat pump fitted.4.7kwp PV split equally N and S 20° 2016.Givenergy AIO (2024)Seat Mii electric (2021). Thanks all really helpful. Looks like removal of meter is first step. Bit worried that gas supplier may then insist on capping which seems to be very expensive. Kicking myself that I was with Octopus until just before I had the air pump installed. Big mistake to have moved to another supplier.0

They cap the pipes when they remove the meter. No additional work to be done.
After a few years the pipeline operator may opt to disconnect your supply pipes in the street, but that won't affect you, usually. The capped off pipes will remain in place.0 -
My house is two storeys above the pavement level and set well back, the gas meter on the side of the house, and the gas people have upgraded all the pipes in the area up to the meter except for the few houses like mine where they decided to come back some time in the future, balking at the amount of work they would have to do. I did wonder if I should have asked them for a couple of grand to let them cap at street level but did not get around to it, missed opportunity! Only have gas heating at the moment so timing would have been wrong.0
