Electricity bill has gone bonkers!
Hi all I am trying to get a handle on why my electricity bill has suddenly rocketed. I was previously paying £55 a month but ended up overpaying constantly. So now I am on Energy Smart with British Gas. Last month's bill was around £90. This month's is looking like being £140! I have NEVER had such a ridiculously large…

Need to change meters/supplier - but how do I work out what's best for me??
I'm on pre-pay electric key & gas card meters with EDF. I'm happy with their service, but am aware that I'm paying over the odds because it's PAYG, so was thinking of changing to a billing/DD meter. I use £7 electricity and £4 gas per week (Winter usage). I was stopped in the supermarket the other week by an EDF salesman,…

Gas Leak
A couple of weeks ago British Gas came around and marked up in the street as there was a slow gas leak. It is apparently not priority but is scheduled to be fixed in the new year. A couple of days ago a neighbour across the road reported the smell again and someone has come out this morning. DH was coming back after taking…

Have you been leaving your heating on 24/7 in this big freeze?
I am in no way adding to the "is it best to leave my heating on all the time or have it on timed" argument, but in this evil cold snap where we have seen night time temps as low as -20, have you been leaving your heating on or still having it on timed? I have left mine on 24/7 for the whole period of the freeze and had it…

EDF Energy Discount Plan v4
EDF have sent me a lette saying they are stopping Nectar points and encouraging me to go onto this new Discount Plan v4. Over-charged for Gas
I was watching an item recently in the BBC's Rip off Britain series that dealt with overcharging for gas by one of the energy companies dating back to 2007. I think it was Powergen but I'm not sure. In the item it said that the company in question had agreed to re-imburse any customer affected and that this would be done…

EDF switch mess up
Hi, At the start of November I decided to switch to EDF for my electricity supply. Everything seemed to be going ok, no problems and I got a letter saying that the switch would be going through on the 20th of December. Great, as we're using heaps of electricity just now and EDF lower prices would be a godsend. However, a…

Switching from Storage Heaters to GCH - good recommendations for Feltham, London
I currently live in a 3 bedroom house with 5 storage heaters. There is no gas and central heating (GCH), everything is electric. I have no gas line/main fitted in the property. I would like to switch to GCH. Can someone please advise on the following: (1) Who to contact to get a gas connection fitted - a list of good…

Npower Boiler and central heating care, any good?
I am considering Boiler and central heating care as it is the same price as my existing contract, £15 a month, but has the bonus of a free boiler service worth £74. If I move my gas and electric to Npower I get 50% cash back if I do not use their call out service. Have you any views on this? Fortyfoot

Swalec prepayment meters, are they worth it?
We are buying our first home and we have been told that both the gas and electric are on prepayment meters, as the house was previously rented out and was wondering if we should keep them or change them to monthly/quarterly direct debits? We are new to it all of this and have never paid bills on gas and electric as we both…

Gas usage.
Since coming home from a weekend away to a frozen hot water pipe and cold water cistern in the loft we've had our CH on continuously since last Monday (20th Dec) albeit very low. As such I've done some calculations as to the usage of gas and was wondering if my results seem reasonable to those who know about these things.…

how much gas am I likely to use?
Hi, I currently share a flat with a friend of mine, we are renting a 3 bed flat. The property has no gas supply, only storage heaters and electric heaters. As a result, our bills are pretty low, and I like it that way! I want to move out in the near future and rent my own place, a 2 bed place (I will be working from home…

British Gas payment holiday
Just logged onto my account checking the direct debit payment and something has been added which is as follows: "Now you can change how much you pay by Direct Debit month by month. Take a Direct Debit payment holiday up to two months a year" I have searched the site looking for explanation but can find none, does anyone…

Does this seem expensive for gas/central heating?
Hello, I live in a bungalow, there's two of us and we have a pay as you go Scottish Power gas card which we regularly top up. It's costing around £40 a week which seems to be very high. From that amount, £15 is deducted a week to pay off a debt we have. Just wanted to check as it seems a lot. Thanks in advance, Julie

Tariff Switch Buffer
Hi, I'm looking to switch from my BG dual fuel web saver 5 tariff. This tariff has a cancelation date which once expired leaves you free to choose another tariff without incurring a fee for cancelation. The good thing about this is that the cancelation of tariff date is months before the end of tariff date which left a…

Electricity Cost
I had a boiler change in the summer and now find that with Scottish Hydroelectric and an economy10 meter I am using between eleven and sixteen pounds of energy per day. I live in a small, modern, two bedroom flat on my own and because of cost am only using a total of three radiators. I am at my wits end, does anybody have…

Meter wrongly listed as commercial.
My daughter has tried to change electricity suppliers but every time she applies, they say her meter is listed as being in a commercial property. She tells them it isn't, it's in a normal two up, two down, terraced house but they don't want to know. How can she can get this listing corrected?
