Scottish Hydro Electric (SWALEC)
At the beginning of the year I tried to switch suppliers to Npower. Waste of time as it didn't go through despite my many phone calls. I am about to try it again and according to two comparison sites SWALEC appears to be a good bet. Any thoughts? What's the customer service like? Cheers

Moving/getting rid of prepayment meter ?
My brother has just brought his 1st property and is planning to move in ASAP. However, it has a prepayment/coin/key meter installed and he wants to replace it with a "proper" meter. However, when he rang up London Energy they told him that as the property had been empty for more than 3 months before he brought it - they…

"Switch now - far less likely to have price hike"
This is what I've been told by a Southern Electric rep, regarding electricity prices. Basically I'm a business user currently with SWEB. Unfortunately, as a business user it's not as easy as simply checking the online comparison sites, but Southern Electric have given me a quote which is 30% cheaper than Sweb. When I…

Countrywide Energy - anyone using this?
After trying several different sites for comparisons, I have found Countrywide Energy quoted as the cheapest supplier for my gas. Calling Energy Helpline to arrange a switch, they tell me that 'yes it is the cheapest but we can't do the link-up for you', but they kindly gave me the phone number. This really proves that…

Boiler servicing - cheapest means?
Does anybody have any suggestions for the cheapest means of financing the annual combi-boiler and living flame service? There seem to be a multitude of insurance products. I have tried looking for an article comparing the two but have had no luck. Any and all suggestions gratefully appreciated. Kind regards, Dr-Lez

TP+getting better!!
I am now once again receiving e bills and in plenty of time! Can honestly say that I really am getting the lowest gas, elec, and phone bills ever. I am a very low user, so it suits me to enter my readings every month and get an accurate bill. Better than a fixed DD where you give utility companies an interest free loan!

Connection to gas main - is it true?
I heard this story recently and thought I would share it with the board. It could be apochrophyl... A chap in rural Solihull bought a remote property and wanted to get mains gas delivered to the house. An old farmhouse apparently, set back 200 yds or so from the road. British Gas (or Transco?) quoted circa £22,000 to do…

Gas,Water & Electric!!!
Can anyone tell if they have the Gas,Water [stop tap] & Electric all in the same cupboard???. I know this may sound a stupid question to some, but the reason why is that my mum had some raising the standards work done by the council on her old peoples bungalow [it is council property] these bungalows that my mum lives in…

Scottish Power Online Account
Now i am beginning to get the hang of this online billing system, i can put in my meter readings on Mondays, and on Tuesdays i can tell exactly how much gas and electricity i have used in the week. Now i am in the process of emailing Scottish Power, as due to a c0ck up on their part, i now owe about £300 on the one…

Additional 'Use of System charge'
Have recently moved house. After a few months, decided to move my gas supply to SWALEC (since they also supplied my electricity). Just received my first bill for the 5 months to 29 July 2004 = £108. Of this, £11 was for the 'service charge', and an ADDITIONAL £11 was for a 'Use of System Charge'. Didn't have this on my…

A free loan for your new utility company!
A word of caution for MSE subscibers when changing utility company. After I had set up my standing order British Gas wanted to take more than twice the amount of what I had previously paid. Thus amounting as a free loan to themselves! Needless to say I have put them right and will be watching them closely!

Unfair bashing of Door-to-Door Sales Reps
I would like to take issue with Martin's crusade against door-to-door sales people. Whilst I am not defending the indefensible, i.e. those who lie about the prices and deals on offer, surely we must respect those who do a professional, competent job and not tar them all with the same brush. It is impossible to be given the…
