Saving water tip

in Water bills
I save the run off water from my taps in jugs and use it to fill the dog bowls and water plants. Sometimes I have some left over and add it to my compost to make it good for next years veg.
I get 3 litres of cold water from my kitchen tap before the water gets warm and even though I use the dishwasher most of the time I still have to wash up everyday with non dishwasher stuff.
Work it out : 3 litres a day = 21 litres a week = 84 litres a month = 1000 litres a year.

Safe the pennies and the pounds look after themselves as my nanna used to say 😉

I save my "run off" to flush the loo. As Mr T says "every little helps". Also I use it on the bird bath.
The washing up water can be used for the loo if it isn't too dirty.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
I do the same as Madlady.
Plus I save the run off water in a dustbin that came with the house for watering pots.
For the garden I will use washing up water with no ill effects.
Bucket outside and rinsed milk bottle water, veg boiling water goes there for the garden and that feeds and waters.
I've even been known to use the bath water to wash the car in the summer. Jug, bucket etc.
A spray bottle of water for washing windows and sills is easier and none gets thrown away. Just stored.
So far I'm getting a refund on the lowest monthly rate so I can afford a longer shower, deeper bath when I need it and still pay basic amount.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

In the hints to save water, it says about saving the water if running the hot tap to temperature, in bottles to use for watering plants or using in the kettle. Water from the hot water tap should not be used in kettles as it can contain amounts of metals.0

Anyone has tips to educate the young-ish kids?I did try and say to them that I will charge them their share of the bills. Then I remembered I pay them peanuts in pocket money already.0

Save water: Wait until your dirty dishes are dry, then scrape the food off with a spoon!0

plug hole in the shower, collect approx 60-80L of grey water every shower. use it to flush the toilet. 2 advantages (aside from the disadvantage if you are in a rush).
1 - normal press toilet flush uses about half the cistern - use a 2L jug and you can control exactly how much is used for the flush
2 - means you don't need new water for toilet flushes0 -
I only put the garden sprinkler on when it's needed.....it saves water.0

Don't rinse glass jars before putting them out for collection....let your council pay for the water to rinse them instead !2

I have a max 2 minute shower once a day . I catch the water in bucket under the shower (easy to do in the bath) . Once the bucket is full the shower
needs to be over.
Use the bucket water to flush the loo for wees when the colour/smell is strong and save full flush for solids .
When rinsing hair , don't over wet, it can only get so wet! and as my mother used to say, when it squeaks it is rinsed so avoid over use of water to rinse shampoo out.
Only run taps with enough pressure to activate the combi boiler then reduce the flow to use,
Water plants with reused water as needed.
