new gas connections

hi all
can some one give me some info about new gas connections.ive just bought my council house and it doesnt have a gas supply from the road to the house.ive phoned brittish gas and they have quoted me £550.00 which is ridiculous.is there a way around this or is this price about right no mater who i get my gas with.

I'm not sure but the infrastructure is normally owned by one company i.e Transco then the gas in it is 'owned' by the suppliers, I'm not sure if any of them would physically connect you themselves as it makes the logistics of servicing and repairs a nightmare. I think the price quoted may well be the be all and end all as it is a set price for connection with maybe some leeway over how far they have to dig up to install your connection. Someone else may be able to supply more detail though, I've never had to install any myself. I know electricity is equally as expensive if you happen to be building where there isn't a current supply/meter0

£500 aint bad,
it usually starts about 175 if its a new main and the men are there.
they wanted 22k for my brothers,he only noticed it as he thought it read 2k yikes0 -
