EDF switch mess up

Hi,
At the start of November I decided to switch to EDF for my electricity supply. Everything seemed to be going ok, no problems and I got a letter saying that the switch would be going through on the 20th of December. Great, as we're using heaps of electricity just now and EDF lower prices would be a godsend.
However, a few days later I received another letter from EDF saying that my current supplier had refused the switch. I called them up (Hydro Electric) who said, no, they have not refused, in fact they have no record of a switch request on my account and in fact there is no reason at all they would have refused.
Called EDF to let them know this and the advisor, on looking further into this realised that they were trying to take over the supply of the farm across the road from us- the wrong supply. She went off and spoke to a supervisor and then assured me that they have corrected the mistake, they will now switch the correct supply and assured me that I would still receive all offers which were part of the original deal, however they would need to start from the beginning again and it would take another 4-6 weeks for the switch to go through. That means that for the duration of the process I am left paying Hydro Electric an extortionate amount for my power and not the cheaper prices of EDF.
My question is, should I complain to EDF about this, can I ask them to compensate me for the extra cost of my electricity which I am now having to pay while waiting even longer for the switch to go through? Or do I not have a leg to stand on and just need to grin and bear it?
Any advice appreciated!

If they cannot get it right when you are giving them your business, are they going to do any better once they actually manage to make the transfer? Personally, I would give up on them and try another company.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. My view is that you have an excellent case for claiming back the difference in rates. It is simply their error and in effect they have been negligent in performing the duties for which they are licensed to operate.
I would be making a formal complaint in writing requesting the amount of extra payments you have had to make.:)
Good luck.0
