ASHP Gas meter removal and standing charge

Hello,
we have recently had an Air source heat pump fitted and now have no need for gas at our property. We had the gas engineer come out to cap the gas supply and remove the meter. Our energy provider says we still need to pay the standing charge (for gas) even though we do not use gas? Is this correct?

No, if the supply is capped then no standing charge should be levied.0

It should also be isolated within 12 months. Although XOSERVE aren’t great at providing the information.0

I disagree. While the meter is present, you're still liable for the standing charge.TadleyBaggie said:No, if the supply is capped then no standing charge should be levied.
OP you need to ask your gas supplier to remove the meter.

There shouldn't be any standing charge now, mine stopped the day the meter was removed, but my installer was also my energy supplier so they did it all at the installation.
Maybe whoever removed the meter hasn't followed the correct procedure in terms of notifying the supplier?0 -

But was "the gas engineer" who removed the meter employed by the gas supplier? That's what should have happened but the OP does not make that 100% explicit.Reed0

Hi yes, the gas engineer was from British Gas who is also our energy supplier.Reed_Richards said:But was "the gas engineer" who removed the meter employed by the gas supplier? That's what should have happened but the OP does not make that 100% explicit.0 -
