Washing plates in cold water
Has anyone washed plates, cutlery, pots and pans etc in cold water. What I am asking is washing up liquid effective in cold water to remove grease etc. Looking for ways to save boiling a kettle each evening. Since I turned my heating off I only have the hot water on tap once a week when I turn the boiler on for my bath etc.

My kitchen sink is slower to empty. I thought I had read in a book that washing soda can be used but I can't find the book now. I have a packet of washing soda but no idea how to use it for this. Can anyone help please. Any other suggestions to clear also appreciated. Thanks.

Heating while away from home
Looks like I'll need to head away from home for a few weeks later on this month.
