Slow Cooker
Hi, i dont know if theres any cookery forum so i'm trying here! I purchased a slow cooker from asda a few months ago. I've tried a beef casserole but the meat never seems like its cooked fully. Ive also done chicken curries and theyve always been fine. I always cook on the low setting, usually between 8-10 hrs. For the…

Tax
Hello all... I hope you can help me? I have applied for a new job and the tax is LTD and another is inside IR35 umbrella- what does this mean? Of course, I have heard of them but never really had to take any interest until now. I have googled it but it still seems a bit more confusing, is it the same as self-employed ? Any…

Weekly Flylady Thread 18 July 2022
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole…

Old Style Daily Sunday 24 July 2022
Morning folks. It's very dark, cool and rainy today. Much like yesterday. I'm glad I mowned the lawn before the weekend. Yesterday I did all my collecting of orders and dropped off two bags at a CS at the same time. A bit of pottering in the house also took place but nothing of any consequence. 😀 Today may be the same. I…

Flask taste
I have a flask I use for fruit tea and then ordinary tea. However after the fruit tea nothing seems to shift the remnants of the taste so normal tea is unpleasant. I've tried thorough washing, washing up liquid neat, boiling water soak, overnight soak etc. Nothing works. Any ideas what will neutralise the flask? I'd really…

food safety - tins which are "blown"
There was a thread back in 2006 about dented tins but that has been closed so I can't resurrect it. (I found it through a web search - not MSE search.) I have a tin of salmon (bought within last couple of months and made April 2020 I think with expiry of April 2024) which doesn't have a dent that I can detect. However,…

OS Daily Tuesday 19 July
Morning! Well, that was a scorcher wasn't it? Maybe not in the further north though...Spent most of yesterday gently sweating on the sofa, today will probably be spent sleeping on the sofa since I've been awake all night, but at least it's a lot cooler now, just in time for the sun to come up and rinse and repeat. I phoned…

Iced Tea, has anyone made their own?
I was drinking iced tea (powdered from a pack) at my aunt's in Canada last week and it just occurred to me that i could make my own. Has anyone got a favourite recipe? I have googled and there is a massive range of recipes , so would be nice to hear of some family favourites.

Is Laundry Sanitiser Seasonal?
Laundry sanitisers usually go in the softener compartment and so are usually added during the final cold water rinse cycle. Dettol say that their sanitiser is only effective at temperatures at or above 15°C. So, it seems that it is not usually effective during the winter. I was hoping that it would save me from washing…
