Chocolate pud in a mug
Ages ago I had a recipe for making up a batch of the dry ingredients mix for a choc pud in a mug. All you did was put a few tablespoons in a mug, I think with milk, and then microwave. Can find plenty recipes but not one like this. Anyone know what I am talking about?

Weekly Flylady Thread 27th June 2022
What is FLYLADY? Well,
it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that
housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless
but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we
all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Old Style Daily Sunday 03 July 2022
Good morning folks. I'm up with the birds, the early morning sunshine is already fading but I'm not. Yesterday wasn't too lovely so, once again, the grass hasn't been cut. My day passed gently after I'd been out for the newspaper. Some time was spent deep in the ArtUK website looking at outdoor art, I got really absorbed…

firelighters
having seen a post were using vacuum fluff as a firelighter reminded me of the way my mothers taught me. i still use this method for every fire i start, though not a coal fire which this method was used on. quite simply take two sheets of newspaper roll diagonally into a long tube, then tie it into a knot (like the first…

12 ways to stop wasting food and drink
Don't store onions and potatoes near to each other. Potatoes store better in the bottom of the fridge, and onions in a dark cool place. I've been doing thi since my friend told me about it last year, as I used to store my onions and potatoes in thesame cupboard and find my potatoes last much longer.

Can anyone help?. Struggling to reduce costs
Hi Everyone, I'm just wondering if anyone might be so kind as to have a quick look over my budget and either advise as to how it compares to families in similar situations or where I may be able to cut costs. I earn roughly £35000 per annum and support my 2 children aged 12 and 16 and also my partner who is unable to…

Shaving foam stain remover (including sweat stains)
I must admit, I stole this idea from the Repair shop, but it really works. If you apply shaving gel to the stain directly and leave for a short while and then rub gently with nail brush (or old tooth brush) then it will remove the stain. I put the clothes through the washing afterwards for a final rinse. In the past, I've…

Cold wash, washing powder?
Hey So I'm buying a house and I'm thinking of buying this washing machine https://ao.com/product/nm111065wcaukn-hotpoint-washing-machine-white-93381-1.aspx It has a 20C option, which apparently works very well at removing stains, and uses 66% less energy than 40c I'm not sure if there are any decent washing powders that…

Cutting heating costs
Scour charity shops for skiing trousers - wear them around the house as well as outside - they're amazingly cosy and I find I stay warm enough to be able to keep heating to a minimum.

Ikea solar powered table lamp called Sunnan.
A few years ago I bought a solar powered table lamp. I don't think they sell them any more. It never gave off a huge amount of light and online reviews agree with that. I kind of gave up on it and it has been sitting around doing nothing. I am thinking of maybe giving it a 2nd chance (currently have it out in the sunshine…

Anyone planning ahead?
Hi, I know we're not even into summer yet, but have any of you started to prepare for later on in the year, particularly with energy prices? We've got a multi fuel burner, so the plan is to stock up with wood over summer and spend as much time as possible in that room in order to avoid using central heating. (Coal just…
