r Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread.
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.
You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!
Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.
Thank you Natty for last week's thread.
Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related content! (i.e. it should be on-topic)
The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!
Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up
These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.
Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.
A few of the basics before we start the week -
Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.
Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.
Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. .other music may be used if you prefer!
WM ~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- that’s your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to former Flylady AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
MAD half hour
- Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stopping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!
Frog (or other amphibian) ~ google 'eat that frog'
Spoons ~ google 'but you don't look sick' and/or 'The Spoon Theory'.
Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

Replace what lives there, wiping as you go
Empty bin and clean it out too - put it outside to dry in the sunshine, if you can.
Clear and clean sink and accessories - don't forget those out-of-sight places - under plugs and under draining racks - and shine those taps - or clean them!
Glug some bleach down the plugholes.
Clean/polish table - wipe mats/change cloth - don't forget the legs and places where sticky fingers can reach.
Clean chairs/stools - and don't forget legs and rails!
Check fruit and wash bowl
Throw away your manky dish cloth or sponge and replace with a new one! Put out a new hand towel and a new tea towel too

Clean chairs (and highchairs) - don't forget under the seats where sticky fingers linger.
Clean windows and sills in both rooms.
EXTRAS
HHI
S&S bathroom
Do something organised - go through your instruction manual file. Recycle any for appliances/equipment you no longer have. Staple receipts to those of newly-bought appliances in case you need them later.

Morning all xx
Another week to grab by the short and curlies and embrace one day at a time. Come on! We can do this ladies because we've got something no-one else has: each other ❤❤❤
I'm up, made my bed and had a brew. Priority today is a visit to Mr Al. But I'll have another brew and breakfast before I do anything else.
Question. Has anyone used Nanna's Secret or Mould Magic? And did they live up to expectations?
Have a good day

Morning all. Another day, another week. Thanks for the list.
If there are any spare spoons today, please send them my way. I've been up all night with a poorly tummy and have a toddler here to look after today. Poppet will probably be growling at me too as there is no way I'm taking her for a walk.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.8 -

morning all
I was absolutely drained yesterday, I pegged out some washing, cleaned my car and the kitchen and fully intended to ckean tge bathroom but got tummy ache and needed loperamide. I also had to take my knitting ba ck as i had somehow developed more stitches than i should have had. I’m knitting a top for my friend’s birthday present. I met her at toddler group, she’s just 5 weeks younger than me. Anyway by 10pm I was wiped out so my last spoons went to loading the DW and the WM and putting the bunnies away.
ASB stay here…you are our friend. It is hard making new friends. She’s my newest and i’ve known her since DD was born.
(apart from Flyladies)
I woke in the night, did the thread and reloaded the washer. I’m taking the aged Ps to a dementia activity. Mum is highly resistant to these things, my sister and I try to be supportive and we are finding it all hard. Mum was always the matriarch, and still thinks she’s in charge and STILL expects my sister and I to do what she thinks we should do…and doesn’t accept that we might actually know what’s best. She’s stubborn as a mule, always has been.

Birthday cards for November, December, and January ordered: Son, Dad, 60, those sort of cards. I have a stash of cards for 'normal' birthdays. Calendar for S also ordered for Christmas.
Going to Mr Al next. I am dressed by the way 🤣. I've fed the birds and put out the recycling.

Morning all.Not sure how much flying will get done this week as I really have to focus on making some money or my overdraft is going to be overdrawn due to council benefits office having not dealt with my change in circumstances yet which means they've only paid me half what I should be entitled to, and also means the council will expect the full council tax payment (which is nearly triple what I calculate it should roughly be for just me in the house) in a week. My other option is to ask my landlady if I can delay Novembers rent payment (but that won't help Decembers if the council mess up the next payment as well!).... son was going to help me out originally but he's missed 2 weeks work due to being sick so he's having to negotiate with people his end as well as he has course fees payment to top up out of his already low wages. Annoyingly we get paid on the same 4 week schedule, bills are due the 1st of the month & then we're both paid the following week. I don't even know where to start as my energy bills are also up in the air due to the price changes and son moving out. Pretty sure I don't need to be setting £160 a month aside now, but when my last bill was £34 for 9 days.....Arrrggghhhh it's such a mess!Today's plan, go through the stuff I have set a side to sell to see what I should just fling, and try to get some stuff listed on local sell sites/apps as at least that way I don't need to try and go to the post office with parcels as I don't have the money to pay for postage up front! Also drink 2 litres of fluid today, as I've not managed that for a while and it's probably hindering my healing. First I need some painkillers, as I'm getting a headache.Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!7

I've just caught up with last week's thread and wish I could have given everyone who felt challenged by RL a virtual (((hug))) towards the tail end of last week. A lot of what was said resonates with me, and without Belovéd in my life I'd feel exactly the same - I've noticed that it's almost impossible to form new friendships as I get older, whereas it was really easy when I was younger. I've known that for over 15 years and have learned to take very careful care of myself as a result - I loathe Facebook because it always makes me feel bad about myself, and am at the point of ignoring the news now - there's nothing I can do to change the bad things that are happening in the wider world. I concentrate my efforts of making my immediate world the best I can for myself and those I come into contact with, friends and neighbours and people who work in shops - as they say thank you I now always say, 'Thank you, and I hope everyone today treats you with respect.'ASB, that book present was at best unkind, but actually very cruel. I feel your pain because I realised the person I walked Hadrian's Wall with last month wasn't a friend At All during the walk and I had three days struggling with coming to terms with it. And yes, I did cry when it got too much. Fortunately I met a lot of total and random strangers who were wonderfully kind (without realising I was in need of that kindness) which is why I'm taking so much trouble to thank all of them that I can, and I 're-decided' how to make what could have been a horrible experience into a meaningful one for me. That's the hard bit - turning a nasty experience into a gratifying one but you can do it.For the record, although I haven't been contributing to the Thread for a while, it's massively, massively important to me because of the people who make it what it is. I don't differentiate between my virtual friends and RL - it's very much part of my RL. (A few years ago I was part of something quite amazing with a bunch of total strangers and we often used to ask each other what we did in RL. After a few weeks I realised what we were doing *was* RL for us, albeit an extra-ordinary event, and have treated everything I'm a part of as RL ever since.) We're virtual friends but those friendships are real.As to Flying. Well, that's why I was a bit busy last week, too busy to post. I've worked my way through my blue clothes drawer and *flung*, worked my way through my black/other colours clothes drawer and *flung* and finished drafting the thank yous - all nine pages of them. Lots of stamps needed, but I've found all the addresses too. I've filled up my 85 litre backpack with flingage because it's far too big and far too heavy and someone else can make far better use of it than I ever will. If I feel the vibe I know I need to feel to make flinging successful I will go through my shoes today because that has to happen next.I have dusted a bit, I have tidied up some of the scruffage on the sundeck and front steps and Belovéd is working on getting the pressure washer going now that the 18 month hosepipe ban is over and making good progress with it. That will make a massive difference too. Today is all about Flying.Better is good enough.6

Morning all
@roundtuit never used either, sorry
@Jazee spoons for you, TV and duvet day!
@Valli your poor mum, it must be tough for her (and you!)
@pigpen I have hair wash on the schedule too. I need it clean before taking some bright dye to it
This week is kitchen week for me, so I want to give the insides of the cupboards a wipe down, clean cycle washing machine, clean befind appliances, scrub floor. After having done a lot of deep cleaning there last month there's not much to declutter comparatively. Also on the list: rehang curtains x3, wash JF's curtains, tip run on Fri, pack for overnight in Oxford on Sat night, dedicate 2hrs to my front garden before tip run, get JF to start Xmas list.
Married 40y.o. mum of an autistic 11y.o. Carer/SAHM.

Well said, round x
I often think that the rest of the world (except for Flyladies!) inhabits a different planet from me. Anyone who lives what so-called "normal" people regard as a non-mainstream lifestyle as portrayed in those ridiculous glossy magazines - whether by choice, or as a result of the constraints of finances/health/relationships/personal beliefs, or because we have a deep urge to strangle somebody but recognise that won't actually solve the bigger problem - is likely to be regarded as "not normal" and therefore to be avoided/pitied/ignored/humiliated. I am my own person. I have a mind of my own and I live as I see fit. I try my best not to damage the Earth or waste its resources (though not always as successfully as I would like), and I believe in equality and justice. It took me 50 years to begin to stand up for myself and rebel against other people's expectations, and I'm still working on myself 25 years later! .
I am so grateful for each and every one of my fellow-Flyladies. I have never felt out of place in this group. We can stay as anonymous as we want; if we feel the need, we can speak our minds or share our little successes and enormous joys, our disappointments, worries, rages, hopes and fears, or just talk about Flying if that is our preference; and we never lose sight of the realities of life. Everyone is welcome here, but I rather suspect that the ones who have disappeared off the thread are those who wear rose-coloured glasses and don't want to know what life is really about. I have never been disappointed in any of the Flyladies that I have met - rather, the complete opposite
