ive heard these are bad for your guts and notice its in a lot of breads and many other things. i wish to try and avoid them and wondered if anyone else does the same?
if you do then what breads can i buy which dont have them?
and are emulsifiers always listed on ingredients or can they be hidden from view or labelled as something else?
many thanks

I suspect the only "real bread" you'll find in the supermarkets will be artisan/organic/sourdough type breads.
The best bet is to make your own using a bread maker, takes 2 minutes to put the 4 ingredients plus water in then set and go. I make bread 2-3 times a week, often overnight on delayed timer and the ingredients are oil, water, salt, flour and yeast. The added advantage of the breadmaker is pizza dough, naan bread, fruit bread/cake6 -
is sourdough an option, dont currently have space/time to make it just want a loaf i can buy without the emulsifiers x3

Making bread either in a breadmaker or by hand doesn’t take long, and is way nicer than shop bought, though if you do it by hand it takes a bit more planning. I make a loaf, slice it up and freeze it, then just take out a slice of two when needed.

M&S home brand bread doesn't to have long lists of ingredients.
I also think an independent bakery sourdough would be a good option.
Is it worth reading all the ingredients online before deciding on what to buy. Perhaps use the ocado on line shopping site, then you can do some armchair research?3 -
a little googling and i found one called bertinet in waitrose , they do a white, malt and seeded loaf.
long term i will make my own bread just for now i need the convenience due to living arrangements.2 -
I just looked at my loaf (a Sainsburys white bloomer from their in-store bakery) and it doesn't have any emulsifier in it. I imagine a lot of in-store bakeries will be likewise, so may be a good idea to check those out.

Just be aware that if you are making your own bread, most quick dried yeasts contain emulsifiers. The only one I could find is called Bioreal, which you’d have to order online as it isn’t in supermarkets (or not anywhere that I’ve seen). Alternatively you can use fresh yeast.
The Bioreal stuff seems to work well. Adding unnecessary ingredients to supermarket food is a bugbear of mine. Only realised dried yeast wasn’t just yeast last week though!2025 decluttering: 1,225🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🏅🌟🏅

I think Fermipan dried yeast is just yeast too - but I always add a small pinch of Vitamin C to my doughs. Fermipan is available from the likes of Amazon
