emulsifiers, in bread etc

ive heard these are bad for your guts and notice its in a lot of breads and many other things. i wish to try and avoid them and wondered if anyone else does the same?
if you do then what breads can i buy which dont have them?
and are emulsifiers always listed on ingredients or can they be hidden from view or labelled as something else?
many thanks

M&S home brand bread doesn't to have long lists of ingredients.

I also think an independent bakery sourdough would be a good option.

Is it worth reading all the ingredients online before deciding on what to buy. Perhaps use the ocado on line shopping site, then you can do some armchair research?

I just looked at my loaf (a Sainsburys white bloomer from their in-store bakery) and it doesn't have any emulsifier in it. I imagine a lot of in-store bakeries will be likewise, so may be a good idea to check those out.

  • I think Fermipan dried yeast is just yeast too - but I always add a small pinch of Vitamin C to my doughs. Fermipan is available from the likes of Amazon

Not according to them on the packet, contains E491, which is an emulsifier
