We moved our energy from Octopus to EON Next on March 19th, I have an EV so it was Important to get a decent overnight tarrif and with the events in Iran I was looking for a fixed rate and this fit the bill. A couple of days after the switch I noticed the smart meter was still showing the Octopus details and tariff. This…

How long do utility companies need to keep billing/account records for?
How long do the utility companies need to keep billing and customer account records for? I was expecting them to go back at least 6 years, if not longer for current customers. My supplier (one of the big ones) has just admitted that they don't have any records from longer than about 2 years ago, which shocked me. The…

Eon smart meter broke boiler
Hi, I am reaching out for some advice with an issue my daughter has had on Friday with Eon. A new smart meter was installed in there house they purchased three weeks ago on Friday. When the gas and power was switched off on the boiler, it blew and is now not working. Their engineers looked and said it was nothing to do…

Economy7
I’ve got an Economy7 meter which has stopped switching to night mode. What’s more night use is only 17%, so not worth it. Current supplier Outfox arranged for a smart meter to be installed but SMS engineer aborted installation due to restricted access. Question: is there a supplier who will offer a whole day single…

EDF meter readings history gone AWOL
Just wondering if it is a site glitch or just my account. Logged on this morning to enter my latest meter readings, which were accepted, but whilst the last 18 months of gas readings are listed the electric list is blank. Just says there are no historical readings. I am not concerned as I have all my spreadsheet data &…

End of contract refund.
Hello, Can someone explain in detail why suppliers are allowed 6 whole weeks to generate a final bill, and are then allowed ANOTHER 10 days to issue a refund? So thats actually 7 weeks and 3 days the old supplier could hold your money, when the new supplier you've just moved to wants a direct debit payment UPFRONT. Must be…

EV Tariff off-peak TOU out of synch for Economy7 users
Hi members, Just wondering if anyone else in the same situation and what is the likely solution apart from adding an individual timer to my consumer unit. Recently switched to EDF Energy GOElectric EV tariff and time of use (TOU) off-peak hours are from 23.00hrs to 06.00hrs (7hrs). However my home has the traditional…

Switch from Octopus to Eon - smart meter functionality?
I wish to change suppliers but am concerned that if I do then I will end up having to do manual readings all the time instead of the smart meter doing it all automatically. Is there a way of checking whether my meter is compatible with the new supplier?

With OVO waiting for the crash?
Investigating whether to wait of switch seems to show that to wait and let OFGEM inform me of my new supplier is not a big deal and the new company takes on the service and my credit. Has anyone a different experience of their Electric company failing and being switched? I've been looking at E.on and Sainsbury (seem to be…

British Gas Final Bill
We have recently moved house to a property that was supplied by British Gas (BG). Immediately upon moving in we took photos of the meter readings, submitted them to BG and then started the switch to Outfox Energy (OFE) It appeared that everything was going to plan with the switch to OFE taking place 7 days after we moved…

Lied to by Octopus
According to Octopus - I have £50 per item - early exit fees on my account This is not true - I have an email from Octopus when I signed up to 12M FIXED - 12 months ago - saying "NO EXIT FEES" What bothers me is why they believe that this is the case and the fact that it has stopped me from changing suppliers to fuse…

Hi there, hope you can help an occasional visitor here. Circumstances are fairly "standard", older couple living in 3 bed bungalow with gas central heating, electric cooking/showers etc, no special needs. My fixed deal with Eon has just ended and I can see all my future options on the cheap energy club. I am sure you can…

New Price Cap 1 April 2026 Octopus Fixed
I'm on the Octopus Fixed Tariff until 3 June 2026, 24.08p per kWh, 47.28p per day and pay via DD £204 per month. No gas. I'm a bit confused as to what to do for the best. Do I just stick with it, until the tariff expires on 3 June or change to a new tariff, on 1 April. There is no penalty for changing tariffs.

Electricians:Would BS 1363 itself need updating to formally allow bidirectional energy flow/backfeed
With BS 7671 Amendment 4 and the upcoming BSI plug-in solar standard, what specific amendments would still be needed for true legal/safe backfeeding into a standard UK 13A socket? From what I understand, the main issue isn’t the wattage itself (e.g. 600–800W), but that BS 1363 sockets are designed as power outlets rather…

Octopus refund.
I saw Martin on the MLMS recently, saying we should request refunds for large energy bills credit. I decided to do that. I was £335 in credit last week. I pay £45 per month by DD. It is low because I have solar PV and for at least 6 months in 2025 my export payments were more than my electricity bill. They recommended last…

New rules on energy suppliers fixing smart meters?
There was a fair amount of press last Feb/March 2026 regarding new Ofgem rules where energy suppliers must fix smart meters within 90 days of the fault report. According to the published info at the time, including on this site, energy suppliers could face fines and other punishment if they did not comply. Does anyone know…
