Smart meter goes dumb after two years
I had a smart meter installed in August 2023. At the time the installer said the signal was weak but it worked fine and I bought an EV on the strength of being able to charge it cheaply overnight and moved onto a Time of Use tariff that relies on half-hourly meter readings. In March 2024 there was an 11 day outage when no…

Smart meter
We are on Economy 7 tariff and it took Octopus Energy over 3 weeks since installing a smart meter for it to read the night time use. Instead it read night time as daytime so we have been charged daytime rate for 24 days. Octopus has offered £40 in compensation, so should we accept or take it further?

I'm with EDF does anyone have much information on this as I cant see any other provider actually providing this tariff anymore. Ive looked at some providers and…

Gas smart meter not sending readings
I'm not sure if this has ben posted previously as I couldn't find a thread. I had smart meters installed 3 years ago and I was advised they were smets2 meters. Since installation the electricity meter has performed correctly sending readings and has been no trouble. The gas meter is a different matter. Since installation I…

Outfox energy
I’m always on the lookout to make a saving. Outfox have a 12 month fixed tariff that appears very reasonable. I am currently with Octopus. Does anyone have any experience with Outfox, or can anyone offer an opinion? I am considering the switch.

Energy supplier being switched without me knowing
Hi Just hoping for some advice about an email from OVO I received an hour ago. I received an email from my electricity company ovo saying that ''were sorry to see you go'' and that they've received a request for me to switch suppliers. I personally haven't requested to switch anything my end. However, I am due to move out…

Outfox Energy seem to have fixed my E7 smart meter to charge day rate 24/7.
Outfox took over my supply 31 July and it took a while for my IHD to show the correct prices. It did swap over to Economy 7, albeit half an hour later than my previous supplier, EDF. They hadn't told me, so got caught with charging my thermal store for 30 minutes at day rate, but simply changed the timer. Took meter…

Ovo smart meter
I've put off having a smart meter due to bad publicity about inaccurate bills. I have now agreed to have an Ovo smart meter fitted later this month. Am I doing the right thing?

Insulation grant
I had a visit from the surveyor following my request for cavity wall and loft insulation to EDF who supply my energy. I can't recall the name of the company they're using for the work in my area. The surveyor had a quick look round and, unlike at my previous home, didn't seem that interested in the state of the cavity and…

Energy supplier wanting to replace 'expired' meter
My supplier claims my electricity meter has expired and they have a legal obligation to replace both it and my gas meter with a smart meter. Coincidentally they have just decided to merge my separate electricity and gas accounts a week before this occurred. Do I have to accept a smart meter as a replacement (apparently…

Dimplex and British Gas create new tariff for Dimplex Quantum Storage heaters
Noticed this yesterday - Dimplex and BG have created a new tariff for owners of Dimplex Quantum storage heaters. BG manage the charging times of the storage heaters via the Dimplex Hub. Looks like they are aggregating Quantum useage into a demand side balancing mechanism /auction via software developed by BG. Offers 7hrs…

British Gas boiler service plan rip-off
British Gas have found a new way to rip customers off... sign people up to an "annual" boiler service plan, but then leave 18 months between services, which is not "annual" in any reasonable sense of the word. We made the mistake of signing up to this for another year in August, despite a huge price hike. We have been with…

Outfox Energy
Switched from Tomato Energy on the 1st July main reason was the price. First impressions wasn't good as struggled to submit meter reading and new website seemed flaky. Since then no problems DD for £67 was taken on the 4th, meter reading easily submitted on the 31st. On the 2nd I have my bill for £66.87 and everything…

Electricity meter impersonating a Norwegian Blue
L&G 470 smart meter fitted by Eon.Next a few years back. Have been with Octopus for about 18 months now. Last automated bill in July was just for gas, which alerted me to a possible problem with the electricity meter. Took a manual reading, and submitted it straight away (triggering a bill).Have emailed and telephoned…

Redundant electricity meter and standing charges
An engineer advised today that our redundant electricity meter, which I religious send zero readings for each month, still incurs a standing charge. The utility company accepts that it and its predecessors have been aware of this for more than ten years (with monthly reminders) and have offered no advice, just taken the…

Back Billing clarification
My MIL is seriously sight impaired and on the priority register. Her supplier is Sainsbury's (EON-Next). She has not had her (dumb) electricity meter read for 500 days. She has had estimated readings and has paid a monthly direct debit. EON have been told on multiple occasions that she lives alone, is unable to read the…
