New Price Cap 1 April 2026 Octopus Fixed
I'm on the Octopus Fixed Tariff until 3 June 2026, 24.08p per kWh, 47.28p per day and pay via DD £204 per month. No gas. I'm a bit confused as to what to do for the best. Do I just stick with it, until the tariff expires on 3 June or change to a new tariff, on 1 April. There is no penalty for changing tariffs.

Electricians:Would BS 1363 itself need updating to formally allow bidirectional energy flow/backfeed
With BS 7671 Amendment 4 and the upcoming BSI plug-in solar standard, what specific amendments would still be needed for true legal/safe backfeeding into a standard UK 13A socket? From what I understand, the main issue isn’t the wattage itself (e.g. 600–800W), but that BS 1363 sockets are designed as power outlets rather…

Octopus refund.
I saw Martin on the MLMS recently, saying we should request refunds for large energy bills credit. I decided to do that. I was £335 in credit last week. I pay £45 per month by DD. It is low because I have solar PV and for at least 6 months in 2025 my export payments were more than my electricity bill. They recommended last…

New rules on energy suppliers fixing smart meters?
There was a fair amount of press last Feb/March 2026 regarding new Ofgem rules where energy suppliers must fix smart meters within 90 days of the fault report. According to the published info at the time, including on this site, energy suppliers could face fines and other punishment if they did not comply. Does anyone know…

Changing from OVO Standard to E-ON fixed.
I have a signal by my meter of -115dB far less that needed for a reliable Smart meter connection. Although I would save 11% and more later I am wary of !!!!!!-ups in getting the meter installed and the aerial needed, etc. Considering staying on standard as OVO does not seem to have a way of changing to a fixed deal on their…

Switching to flat rate when smart meter was previously economy 7
Hi all, I hope you can help. I moved into a 2 bed electric only flat in December that had storage heaters & economy 7. After the shock of my first month's bill being £300 😱 I replaced the storage heaters with infrared panels so no longer needed the econ 7 tariff. I was on Octopus Flexible (with different day/night rates)…

How to live without heating - save £000s
I am sorry to read Martin Lewis say he fears people will die because a lot of people cannot afford heating. I agree but regard it as sad. The Government, Councils, charities and other public bodies could do a lot more to advise people on what to wear so many of those people should be able to stay perfectly warm without any…

Best time to switch electricity only deal?
HI, I am on a fixed electricity only deal with EDF that expires at the end of June, and wondering if it would be better to switch to another deal before the price cap announcement, i.e. are available deals likely to be worse after the announcement?

Clarification of Gas standing charge?
In early April we went all electric for our home. Mid April we had the Gas Meter removed from the side of the house. I believed at that time, as the house does not have access to a Gas supply that the standing charge would stop. I have now been told by my supplier that in order for this to happen we will need to have the…

Help! Student renting and must arrange own bills
My grandson is heading into his second year at Uni and would like to share a flat with two friends. They've found somewhere but bills aren't included. He told me they've been quoted £30 per student per week with Unihomes to cover tv license, water, insurance, gas, electricity and broadband. To me that seems high, but it…

Back billing, Are you eligible?

BG seems to have altered my meter record, and is now trying to bill me a lot
I was wondering if anyone had experience of British Gas deleting their existing meter record, and replacing it with another. It appears they are trying to create an appearance that I have been assigned a specific meter, with serial code. However, it does not match my bills. The serial number of my neighbor is clearly…

If you're having issues with your smart meter or its installation, you'll be eligible for automatic compensation from 23 February, the energy regulator has confirmed today (Friday 30 January). But this won't yet be payable if your meter's gone 'dumb' and doesn't send readings to your supplier… Read the full story:…

Energy bill still wrong after a year
Do back-billing rules over a year apply to me? I complained to my energy supplier in July that the bill was incorrect. I went to the Ombudsman, and they told the supplier to bill me correctly. The energy company is still generating an incorrect bill. I have gone back to the Ombudsman, and they are asking the supplier to…

Uswitch 25 hours free electricity
I’ve seen a promotion advertised by Uswitch offering 25 hours free electricity if you connect your smart meter. Has anyone taken part in this before as I think they may have ran something similar at Christmas? I assume the catch is they collect and sell your usage data to target you with tailored tariffs?…

Switching from Octopus smart EV tarrif to EDF question
Intelligent Octopus Go is looking uncompetitive compared to EDF's version. I tried to use referral links to get £75 to switch but I just get a page with a phone number. The call handlers said the only was to do it would be to move a standard tariff in 7 days and then to the EV one after they've checked the meter is working…
