Economy 7 with "normal" meter
We have what I would consider a normal electricity meter, four terminals L and N in and L and N out. It's a SMETS2 smart meter. Is there any reason we couldn't go onto E7, or would the meter need to be changed?

British Gas Service. Or total lack of.
I have a problem. Its name is British Gas.My British Gas Smart gas meter failed as storm Darragh hit late on Friday evening - not really relevant, except for context. It shut off the gas into our property (these meters have an internal shut-off valve). I spent hours on the phone - astoundingly, all British Gas calls go to…

What is the time limit to issue a bill?
Outfox The Market whom I left years ago, have suddenly decided to send me a bill for a period of between 20 January 2019 to 25 Jan 2019 for the amount of £159.43. Are they allowed that? It says on the internet that utility companies should not be able to bill anyone with any back bills older than 1 year if the below rules…

Scottish Power installed an Economy 7 Smart Meter when I have oil central heating
Since the energy prices have increased I have started to take a look at the usage, and to see if I am overpaying for electric. I use on average 1.09 units of electricity during the night, we have had oil central heating as that was in situ when we moved into the cottage in October 2013. Therefore, we paid all our…

Is this smart meter wired up for Eco 7?
Can anyone help please? I have a tenant complaining his storage heaters aren’t working. He had a smart meter fitted recently. He doesn’t know if he’s on an Econ 7 tariff. This looks like it should be ok for the storage heaters? They were working fine last winter. Edit: have added another pic below. Have discovered he is…

Utility Warehouse electric bill
I have been with UW since the beginning of October. Their October invoice my DD was £87.00 and the total charges were £0.00. The confusing thing is the £87 DD included VAT of £4.14 leaving a figure of £82.86 which is then transferred to my credit balance. This means I am in credit of £82.86 and not the £87.00 I expected.…

Octopus email me to say my meters were end of life and I should book a smart meter which I did The engineer arrived today, after walking round the block to show him where the gas meter was he said a smart meter won’t work so I will only get the electric. British Gas Incompetence
So after a gas meter was removed in early September from my parents' property (I have PoA), BG decided to carry on billing my parents the standing charge for a non-existent meter. Formal complaint raised, overbilling credited etc and was supposedly resolved back in October. This morning, guess what? Yet another bill on a…

Scottish Power not offering ANY tariffs
Why is it that Scottish Power ARE NOT offering any alternative tariffs? I've checked the app repeatedly over the last few weeks with a view to changing to a fixed tariff but there's a notice stating they're unable to generate quotes. This seems grossly unfair and possibly illegal. Can anyone help or advise?

British Gas Issue - Wrong Tariff on account - Billing errors - no staff to actually fix issue
I am having a problem with British Gas at the moment. For the record I have a dual rate meter - the estate is all on dual rate and have been paying dual rate since 2019. I signed up to British Gas on the 08th August 2024 under the following terms (Dual rate): However since I migrated from my previous provider I have had…

ECO4
I live in an E-rated property in England, off the mains gas grid. Our 30-year-old electric storage heaters, powered by Economy 7, and a thermostat-less immersion heater handle our heating and hot water. Our household income exceeds £36,000, but my adult daughter lives with us and receives Universal Credit and PIP. Based on…

What compensation would be reasonable to expect from Octopus?
I finally got my smart meter installed on Friday and had this from them this morning; "Now it's time we start discussing compensation for this whole complaint and look to begin resolution. I've rented my house for…

Next Reward Days Fixed 12m v2
Hi Anyone signed up to this tariff know if you can switch to another eon tariff without incurring the exit fees. On my quote it says two different things. On the summary 'if you switch supplier' and in the tncs 'if you end before the 12 months'. I've emailed them but thought I'd also ask here. Cheers

Stay on fixed tarrif or switch to variable
Octopus contract is coming to an end. We have electricity only and they are saying we can stay on the fixed tariff where the unit rate is 24.26p/kWh, or we can switch to flexible tarrif at 25.21 p/kWh. I believe the cap is going up again in January so is it better to stay on the fixed? Also what I don't understand is that…

Plug-in energy monitor
A couple of questions about these; anecdotal experiences most welcome and I'm open to any specific recommendations as well. (Non-smart though, I just want one that provides a display and I'll make my own notes - which would be required for things like different comparing washing machine cycles anyway even for a smart one,…
