Bad timing? What to do?
So currently with Eon.Next at a rented property, the fixed price ends on the 18th of December and we are moving into a new rented property on the 2nd of January and are looking at moving to Octopus Energy. However, our tenancy doesn't end in the current property until the 9 February and we planned for the crossover to get…

EDF charged exit fees after flooding?
I was recently made homeless due to my property being flooded, my insurance company are taking over the property to dry it out etc and I've been told to expect to be out of there for 4-6 months. I've told EDF the situation and they've closed my account down, with £150 exit fees. Is it right they've charged me those exit…

Where can I find past history of gas and electric rates
I've checked the Ofgem site but they have the current and future rates, but I can't find previous rates. I only want to go back about 18 months, for unit rates and standing charges. Can you point me in the right direction please? It's not on my bills as I'm on a smart tariff.

Octopus 15M Fixed E7 Rate 1/Rate 2 swap
I'd not had a bill since changing from the SVR E7 to the Fixed 15M tariff on the 25th September (should be monthly). Throughout, the usage and costs have been showing correctly in the Octopus "My Energy" section of the App/Account (and Bright App). So on the 7th November I thought I'd try and provoke billing by submitting…

Free Boiler and Cavity Wall Insulation from UK Energy Management - Is it a scam?
Reps for a company called "UK Energy Management" are going door to door in my estate, offering a free boiler and cavity wall insulation. I'm aware there are schemes out there, however this one has no eligibility criteria apparently. I've seen them do the install on a few neighbours, always in unmarked white vans (and…

Back-billed for electricity over a long year period!
Hi, I'm going to cut a long story short. I will provide more detail if necessary... Can an energy company (Scottish Power) pursue you for historic energy bills after 2 years in any circumstances if: * They never sent you a bill; only letters addressed to "The Occupier" * You were paying your energy bill to another company…

British Gas: Ain't received my warm home discount?
Hi, wonder if you can help.... I received a letter in October 2023 saying that i will receive £150 warm home discount by the 31 of March 2024. On the letter it said i don't have to do anything as it will automatically be done by my energy supplier. I phoned British Gas as nothing on my payment history shows anything…

Scottish Power SEG Export advice please
Hi everyone, I had Solar Panels and Battery Storage installed a year ago through an independant Solar install company. Due to all the hassles I have had with it since, it's been my biggest regret and a pain in the rear. Five months ago I transferred our services from Scottish Power to Octopus. A couple of month's ago, it…

Free boiler scheme
Hi I wanted to know if there are any such schemes available. I have found this one but don't know if it's genuine. Has anyone else used this one and did they get a free boiler? I have fallen victim to scams before where they took details and even details of what benefits I was on but I heard nothing back.…

At what point in the year would you expect to use more than your DD?
It has been a pretty cold November where I live, and due to health issues I have had the heating on more than I generally do to stay comfortable. Like many people I have built up a decent credit ready for the Winter - I am classing December to March 31st as 'Winter' as don't usually use heating much in April. In November I…

Infrared panel heater - efficient alternative to hot water bottle?
My wife works from home most days, and she has her work desk/office area setup in the living room which gets very chilly as it is an open plan space. She uses a hot water bottle which is heated by a kettle every hour or so (think it's a Breville 3kw model). During working hours, the central heating is turned on when needed…

NSH circuit effect of non standard tarrifs?
Somewhat daydreaming for a friend. The older Economy 7 wiring, a separate fuse box/consumer unit with your night storage heaters on it that only becomes live during economy 7 periods. Currently run off a second tail from a smart meter that turns it live during the economy 7 periods. However there are now an increasing…

Octopus Energy
How come Octopus Energy rate so highly for customer service.
They advertise that they are one of the very few companies who provide an email
address that you can contact them on directly but what’s the point. I’ve sent
them 3 emails in the last two weeks and still await a reply or even an
acknowledgement – I’ve tried…

Shower/Combi Boiler Cold Water Issue
Hi everyone, Got a bit of an odd problem. Had a new Worcester 4000 boiler installed, and the shower is behaving very odd. It's a thermostatic mixer. Sometimes it's fine and runs hot, other times it goes cold after a few minutes. The only way to get the hot back is to run the hot water tap and then it's fine again. As the…

Urgent Help with Boiler Leak Solutions and Insurance
Hi all, I’m dealing with a leaking boiler, and it’s causing a bit of stress. A plumber inspected it and mentioned that parts might need replacing, but I haven’t received a clear update yet. Is there a law or rule that says I have to have a gas supplier?
More of a hypothetical question than anything I'm actually planning on doing, but we switched from gas central heating to a heat pump last year, and we've just replaced our gas hob with in induction one, meaning we have now have no gas appliances at all. Obviously we're not to happy paying a standing charge for nothing,…

Fixed rate vs flexible rate
I’m currently with octopus on flexible rate economy 7 . I’m sorry I am autistic and dyslexic and the numbers confuse me. Would it be cheaper for me to be on a fixed flat rate or flexible with day and night rates ?
