OVO sending debt charge on closed prepayment key fob meter account
I was renting a small 1 RK apartment for 12 months during my time at university. I recently moved out after finishing my course and closed my OVO energy account for the flat on the 19th of September, 2024. The flat had an old-school prepayment meter that I had to top up at in-store Paypoints. The meter remained in credit…

WFA cut - a different approach. Bank switching!
Here's an idea. If everyone under state pension age who is concerned about / against / angry about the WFA cut could help one person over state pension to switch a bank current account (or two) between now and Christmas, we could have this year's allowance effectively paid for everyone via the banks. Maybe even set up a…

Looking for a new supplier
Had solar for years but recently just added battery storage (tesla powerwall). Currently on a standard variable tariff with BG but surely there's a better tariff now for me as basically charging the battery with solar and off peak. Any supplier I should look at or site that can search for the best supplier/rate for me now…

OVO Billing - computer error
Hi everyone, I'm seeking some advice regarding a frustrating experience with Ovo Energy. Over the summer, I was paying a higher direct debit to build up a balance for my winter energy usage. I accumulated a healthy balance of around £900 and recently decided to reduce my direct debit slightly. However, days later, I was…

Octopus billing
I am confused - I am on Octopus 12m fixed - not that that affects my issueon Sunday - we put the (gas) CH on from 8pm to 8:30pm and I noticed that the Smart Meter display showed £1.27 before turning the heating on - it clocked up just 2p during the next half hour !!I wondered whether it would correct itself the next day…

Octopus: broken electricity smart meter
I now have a clear status from Octopus regarding my broken smart meter. Octopus will not replace a meter that works for meter readings but does not work for half-hourly data. I wonder how many broken smart meters there are in the field. My meter worked for many years until July 2023. It even survived DCC adoption. I would…

Smart meter taking readings but not recording usage
Hello, I switched to Octopus from EDF a couple of months ago and use a smart meter. I'm only being charged for electricity, not gas. In the meter reading section there is one electricity section which takes both daily usage and then monthly readings - this works fine. However there are two tabs for gas - one that shows…

ECO4 Scheme for ground floor flat
I recently applied for the ECO4 since I involuntarily got made redundant and couldn’t afford a new boiler which every now and again stops generating warm water. I have a ground floor flat (period conversion so once upon a time it was a house but as with most properties in London, converted into now 3 flats) with a garden.…

British gas billing migration
Has anybody had problems with British Gas bill migration. From the old billing system I was owed money which they sent me as a cheque. Now they have brought forward that money as a debit. 9 calls later everyone has explained what has happened but nobody has done a thing about it. Is it wrong for me to ask for it to be…

Solar Inverter Query
I have an Aurora Power One inverter. During daylight hours a green light comes on, and this disappears at night time. Is it as simple as that OR does the green light indicate that generation exceeds consumption (giving a net gain) at any one time?

British Gas Hidden Debt
I’ve been on PAYG gas with British Gas since I moved in to my house last year. I kept the meter topped up with regular payments when it got low. Recently I initiated a switch to a different provider. I then received an email from British Gas saying I owed money and would have to make arrangements before I could switch. I…

Octopus and Notifying Power of Attorney
Hi, For ease of energy account admin and to be more agile when tariffs change etc, I've referred my parents to Octopus Energy and I have put the request in, to transfer from British Gas. I'm sure most of this will be standard but wondered if anyone has experience of notifying Octopus that they're operating under Power of…

EDF IHD problems
I've been at war with EDF ever since they installed an EDF gas SMETS2 (GEO). The data has never transmitted to the IHD unlike the EON SMETS2 -Smartview2. Their latest excuse is that I would have to have two separate displays because they were fitted by different providers. Is this true? I've never been able to get gas data…

Yearly kWh for an average flat / immersion heater expense
I've just checked our 2 person flat's electricity usage and found it to be about 4750 kWh per year / 13kwh per day. All the average figures I've found online seem to indicate this is deemed more extreme than the usage of a very large house of 4 people. Apparently the yearly figure should be closer to 2000 kWh per year.…
