MSE Collective Switch Oct 2025 foiled by incorrect Profile Class in National Database

A very good afternoon to everyone. Long-time lurker and first time poster ;  I note quite a few stories about those databases and profile classes in the forum!

Like many others, my wife and I were keen to use the MSE Energy Collective Switch in Martin's (early October?) email.

Key switching points:
  • we decided to move to EDF for dual fuel
  • we were already with EDF for gas
  • we had been moved to OVO for electric some time back when SSE moved out of our area
  • important: the VAT amount on electric is and has been 5%, indicating domestic use;
  • we are in credit on both fuels
  • the Gas meter MPRN and Electric meter MPAN (or MSN ?) numbers on the respective fuel bills MATCH what is on the meters (phew!);
  • both meters are smart but the electic meter new (installed about 1year ago) and sends daily readings

What happened:

03 October 2025 = I attempted a switch to EDF for dual fuel using the MSE tool which worked fine.

06 October 2025 = EDF emailed stating that they CAN switch our gas but CABBOT switch electric as our "record shows as non-domestic".
I contacted OVO who stated that the Profile Class for our address on the National Database was "00" for a business when it should be "01". They could not explain why this has been changed but advised that within a week this should be corrected.

15 October 2025 = as you can guess  :)  that change hasn't happened and OVO now say that 2-3 weeks for a change to the  National Database is typical.

My questions:
  1. I understand that National energy databases can only be amended by current existing supplier(s) but is there anything that OVO can do to speed this up?  The nice lady on the phone claimed not....
  2. Does anyone know what our rights are?  Specifically should EDF "hold" our switch application until the  National energy databases is updated? I have already replied to the EDF Service rep dealing with us but am curious about people's input.

Thank-you in advance for ploughing thru this :-)

    Sorry, can't help with your query, but if you were on a non domestic tariff did you not think your bills were a bit high?

    No worries. But if only it had been that simple !   Our electric tariff was boringly domestic: we were on the "Simpler Energy March 2023" 2-year tariff after which it transitioned to their standard variable rate on which we currently are. Hence the wish to switch...

    The EDF rep did just reply stating that we should be able to do the switch once the database info is updated as this is not our fault. We'll see how this develops...

    I wonder whether you've been caught up in the transition to Market-Wide Half-Hourly Settlement. The Profile Class (PC) for all domestic customers' supplies is being changed to 00, except for those with multi-rate supplies like Economy 7. The change started on 23 September, so it's not unlikely that your PC has already been updated, even if instructions to support staff haven't.
