Electricity meter is still recording units even after I've turned the electricity off at the mains
Our electricity meter is recording units even when the mains is turned off. The
meter readings that we are continuing to log are showing approx. 1 unit per
hour which is easily double what our normal usage would be. Our previous 2 years have been approximately half of what is now being recorded, even though our usage…

Calculating energy usage
It's time for me to review my energy deal and I'm trying to calculate how much I've used in the last 12 months. To do this, I have taken the meter readings from Sep 2024 and the readings from Oct 2023 and come up with a difference in KW/h. I have then fed them into MSE's own energy comparison site and the payments quoted…

EDF - Current tariff prices different on app vs bill
I always keep an eye out for the best tariffs. I check regularly to see if I can save vs current. There is something strange with the comparison section. On my bill, prices are far cheaper than what it says when checking my tariff on the app. i use to app to compare what I currently pay vs another tariff. But this is…

Switching from prepayment meters to monthly bill
Hi. My mother's on prepayment meters for both gas and electric through no reason other than she couldn't be bothered changing. Both are with eon and British gas. We want to do away with the prepayment option and go to having a monthly direct debit. I believe it's called a credit account. I tried to use MSE energy club to…

GBIS (Great British Insulation Scheme) - is it functioning for anyone
Hello all I applied to the GBIS (formerly Eco+) a few days after the scheme became live in early October. My gas supplier (Scottish Power, who is responsible for delivering the scheme) told me: "The next step in this process is you will be contacted shortly by a Scottish Power accredited installer, the installer will…

Options for Smart Timers/Switches for Immersion Heaters & Storage Heaters (potential IFTTT)?
Been a while, but now it's getting chilly again I'm looking at installing a smart switch for my night storage heater, and at the same time considering doing similar for my immersion (which is just on a manual timeclock). I've read a number of reviews/posts about some of these online and people have mentioned some…

Scottish power illegal entry to property
Hi I’m a landlord and tenants moved out August, SP informed and meter readings submitted. Beginning of September rang SP again to update the new address of the tenant to forward any outstanding monies owed to new address. Property is vacant and has been for 7-8 weeks, property was checked and it’s been entered and meter…

Octopus Energy - is it worth trading energy?
It seems I am missing the point as I feel it is not worth trading energy with Octopus Energy: 1. Flux tariff: 2:00-5:00 buy 14.77p, sell 4.68p; 5:00-16:00 buy 24.62p, sell 13.13p; 16:00-19:00 buy 34.46p, sell 26.21p; 19:00-2:00 buy 24.62p, sell 13.13p2. So, I charge during the day on solar and the battery discharges 100%…

Tesla Powerwall 2 - can it be set up to discharge only partially to the grid?
Hi, everyone, I want to set up Powerwall 2 so that is discharges only 35% during peak times between 16:00 and 19:00. Then I want it to supply only my house and, if required (it seems the battery checks the weather conditions), charges up between 2:00 and 5:00 AM when the next day is expected to be cloudly. However, I do…

Cheap Energy Club
Dear MSE, When will the Cheap Energy Club update the Unit rates for the Oct 1st change? You keep banging on about me switching to a fix, but how do I know which fix is the best when you are still using the pre October price rises as the basis for my comparison? Surely you have someone to update these things? Just do you…

Octopus - switched to Fixed too late?
Hi there, I received the Weekly Money Tips email tonight and hadn't given our energy costs any thought until reading the headline about switching. We've been with Octopus using Flexible Octopus and since March (new smart meters installed, so figures don't go further back unfortunately) we've used the following: - Gas,…

STANDING CHARGE FOR GAS SUPPLY
I recently had meters changed to smart meters. Engineer said there was a gas leak, so has "capped" gas supply; said gas engineer required. Recommended work will cost well over £2K. I cannot afford to have this done. There is no gas coming into house so not a safety issue now. If I do not have the perceived fault rectified,…

ECO4 and Octopus
I live in an E rated flat about 12 months ago I applied via Octopus our energy provider for insulation through the Eco4 scheme. We were told it would be a wait to get it installed but 6 months later we had not heard anything. I followed up and submitted a complaint. However this didn't really help. We had regular emails…

Estimated bills for 1.5 years and no way to check if billed correctly!
Hi all First time poster and I could not find a thread similar to what I wanted to ask, so apologies for any duplication. My 70yo mother has been living in a one bedroom flat being supplied by Utility Warehouse since March 2022. The smart gas meter was not working (didn’t display any reading) nor was it providing accurate…

Can I choose a single rate electricity tariff?
My daughter's new flat according to the EPC has economy 7 and heats the hot water cylinder at night. As far as I can tell it has a standard smart meter to which the immersion is connected as normal with only an on/off switch (no timer) so will only heat at night if you manually make it do so. The smart meter reading does…

EDF Price hike against quote?
Early Sept we got A QUOTE for an EDF EV tariff and fixed price gas tariff. We agreed with those tarrifs and chose to run this consecutively after our existing tariff which ended end September. I did confirm with the rep that these prices don't change. I've now noticed that we are been charged the October price lift?????…
