Often house insurers require that an unoccupied property has central heating maintaining a minimum temperature of 15 degrees centigrade. Plus weekly inspections from a trusted party.0

The way thermostats normally work it may not kick in till temperature drops to 9 or 9.5 Cdbrookf said:Does this seem adequate given the temperatures forecast? Does it mean that the boiler will fire up at 10 degrees C?Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke1 -
Yes - absolutely. They don't want a leak to persist and destroy the whole house.dbrookf said:

Your insurance policy will state how long you can leave the house empty. It's very unlikely you will be allowed 2 months. We had a holiday house 50 miles away. The insurer stated that from the 1st of October to the 31st of March the heating either had to be switched off and all the pipes drained, or had to be heated to 8 degrees C. It also had to be checked at least once a week.
I've a friend with an unoccupied house and she keeps a log - says when she visited, what she checked / found and dates and signs it every time. If she cannot make it she gets a neighbour to check it and sign the log. Keeps photos of the log on her mobile phone.2 -
