Stuff in the loft - Trash or Treasure?!
Guys, My folks are keen to empty their loft of all the stuff they don't need - realistically quite a bit of this is probably mine! Im assuming most is due to the dump, but, some may be useful/valuable/wanted, just thought I'd canvas for opinions on here.. Mitsubishi Diamond 21 crt - man this thing was heavy, it was a…

Ebay - request opened by a buyer. How long do I have to refund it
Hi a buyer has opened a request for a refund. (I'm a private seller) Back in the day where there was selling fees, there was a risk that if you waited until ebay 'stepped in' and ruled against you (which they always do) then you lose the selling fees. The cheapest option therefore was to just refund the buyer. Now theres…

What is reported?
Can someone please explain what is being submitted to HMRC from ebay? It's unclear and difficult to understand. Many people report on an April to April date. But the report from ebay, if I understand correctly, is January to December. How does this match or make any sense for HMRC? I believe I understand the date to be the…

Selling Online & HMRC - eBay Guidance
Just logged into my account, which now shows a 'Year-To-Date Total' at the top of my selling page. Also had a link to this information, which may be of use to others: https://pages.ebay.co.uk/digital-sales-reporting-hmrc/

Ebay sales over £1000
I expect to have sold approximately £2,300 worth of hand made items on Ebay and Etsy by the end of the tax year, so obviously I am over the limit. As I live on 2 small pensions, savings and investments I do not earn enough to go over my personal tax allowance. When adding on the online sales I am still below my tax…

EBID trying to force me to join and use REVOLUT
Apparently since 20.01.25 (coincidentally - my first sale!) has to verify my payment card. It accepted my AMEX when I paid the £69 for a lifetime membership, but will not accept it now. It says it will only accept REVOLUT which I have no intention of joining as a payment card. I have entered via the site URL and not the…

eBay account hacked
I am still shivering a little, thinking what other information the scammers might have got... anyhow. This afternoon I logged into my ebay account, browsed for a little while and bought a dress. Then I went to take some photographs of items I wanted to list. Left my laptop in the room, logged in. When I got around listing…

RM tracking delay warning
Just printing my ebay labels ready for the post run and this message pops up each time on the ebay postage page. Not sure what it impacts but this is a slight worry for any private seller using RM after the 4th Feb who might be needing their funds urgently. "Please be aware that Royal Mail is experiencing tracking issues…

eBay Private Seller - Self Assessment Tax Return??
I have been using my eBay account to sell my personal possessions collected throughout the years. What is classifed as Income? A painting cost me £500 a few years ago, I have sold this for £550, minus the fee and postage, would the income be £20? So confused to say the least. Thanks for your time. PS I have also posted…

New tracking confirmation and possible scams.
Should we be concerned when the new rules on tracking confirmation comes in on Feb 4 that it will encourage scam buyers to make claims for none delivery? All they have to do is check the tracking showing parcel as not delivered (when in fact it has been delivered) and put in a claim. The item, still showing as not…

Can (should I) become an ebay business seller?
I see a lot of threads on here where people are getting stick for being registered on ebay as a private seller when they are actually running some sort of business. What is the opinion on a genuine private seller registering as a business? I am a genuine private seller. Although, I do currently have about 1200 individual…

"Local eBay Deals Mapper" doesn't work for 'Search Anything'
I used to use the "Local eBay Deals Mapper" on moneysavingexpert all the time to see what was available in my area regardless of category by leaving the "What would you like to buy?" section blank. Now it demands I put something in there or select a category. Has it changed or do I need to put something specific instead?

2 or 3 "offers" every week on the same items, is it ebay or the seller?
I posted recently about some gadgets I was looking to buy and the silly prices people start them at on ebay. They are almost double the auction selling price and they are still for sale whch I expect them to be for a very long time at those prices. But the reason for this post. I keep getting offers with £5 or £10 off, 2…

Gumtree question
I've put something for sale on Gumtree for the first time and have a question. If it doesn't sell and I want to reduce the price, is it better to just post another advert (presumably the most recent adverts get most attention) or if i just change the price on the existing advert I'm guessing it won't get any attention as…

Selling Old Laptop and Other Questions
Hi all, I hope you all had a fab Xmas and got all the presents you wanted! I'm selling an old laptop. It still works but I am selling it as "parts only". Is there anything I need to look out for? Any new scams going round? I sold one about six years ago and had no issues so hoping for something similar. What would be the…

eBay Promotion
Does promoting an item via eBay work? Have you tried it? I believe eBay take 10% of the final price if the item sells? I'm a private seller - have an item that's been listed for months at £400 (RRP is £600) and not really selling as it's a bit specialised. Was considering promoting it.....

How do I reach Amazon Complaints
I want to put in a complaint to Amazon UK as I can’t get a satisfactory resolution via their chat option. Their complaints@amazon.co.uk is not receiving emails. I have had a wrong item delivered 3 times this week. On one occasion, their assistant issued me with a £5 credit to cover postage when I re-ordered. When the wrong…
