Starling Bank Lax Approach to Fraud
I hope this post is allowed and is in a suitable category. I've just been amazed at how poorly Starling Bank have treated a fraud report. My daughter was tricked into making a payment from a QR code in a car park for a subscription that is nothing to do with the parking payment (don't scan these codes, it's well known that…

Santander and Open Banking transfers
I know in the past people have had issues when sending larger value transfers from Santander using Open Banking. Having account blocked, being (wrongly) told it is higher risk of fraud, etc. I wondered if this had improved? Asking as I will be making such a transfer next week and wonder if I'm better off routing via a…

Financial Ombudsman sided with the bank
Last August (2024) I fell victim to an authorised push payment scam which involved four payments. The bank have refunded three of them totalling £7300, but are refusing to refund the first one of £2000 on the basis that I authorised it in the app. I went to the ombudsman and they said the same thing. However, I only did it…

What is an Active Direct Debit? What about Standing Orders (for bank switch bonus)?
I am not clear what an ‘active’ direct debit is. I have joined FD, and I want to use an old account to make the switch, I can set up 2 new direct debits to that account for the switch. BUT do they have to have been paid in the period before the transfer? Or can they just be set up and then active on the new account (the…

Ulster Bank BEWARE
Seduced by the promise of a good interest rate, and in the absence of any **warnings** on the comparison websites, I opened an Ulster Bank savings account although the process was far more labyrinthine than it usually is when opening an account.
