Switching to FD or Barclays with debt

Hi,

I have had defaulted debt with both HSBC and Barclays in the past.

Both accounts were sold on to debt recovery companies, and so nothing directly with them at the moment.

The defaults were over 6 years ago and so no longer appear on my credit record, although I am still making payments to the debt recovery agency (moorcroft and Capquest).

I have done several switches over the last few years, without issue, but have stayed away from HSBC/FD/Barclays due to the debts.

I just wondered if anyone knew if there was any chance in even applying for these switches, given the history? Whilst they are no longer on my credit record, will the companies have blacklisted me?

Also, if I was to be accepted, could they take funds from a current account to pay the debt? Or could this not happen as its been sold on?

My credit record is looking quite good at the min so I dont want to mess it up.

If they have sold the debt on then no they can't offset the debt without buyback rights and it's highly unlikely so far along they would try.

What you're likely to find is they will simply refer to their internal blacklists and refuse you because you cost them money in the past, but you never know

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

As FD use the same backend system as HSBC, there is a good chance that they could decline you on the basis you had a default. Due to no limit on how long data is kept on internal systems.
