Gifting from SIPP
I am in the fortunate position of having two SIPPS from which I have no need to take income. An existing works and state pension are sufficient to enjoy a comfortable retirement. With the proposed IHT charge on unused pensions I am considering options to mitigate this. One which I am considering is to commence drawing an…

Informing insurers of repairs, self-paid?
Do you tell your insurers of any bumps/scrapes/repairs which you have paid for yourself and not claimed for. I have recently had a claim/repairs and during the phone call, was asked and said I had also had a minor bump, paid by myself. They still required details, as it builds up a picture of my driving.

How to tell if my car will be written off?
My car has a valid MOT till next summer and drives perfectly well. However it has a fault which would lead to definite MOT failure next time - a big crack in the windscreen in front of the driver. This windscreen is not replaceable through the usual sources because the car is an import, never having been sold commercially…

Separation/Divorce - Moving out, possible to obtain another mortgage.
Hi, Bit of a morbid post, but it is what it is. My wife and I have decided to split after 16 years in a relationship, the last few haven't been very enjoyable at all, now it's not fair on the kids (9 and 13). Not ending nastily, we both knew it was coming, but now what to do with money/house/mortgage. I'm - wanting to -…

NHS in Wales - is there a private alternative to A&E ?
A friend of mine has recently had a very bad experience where he had a very badly infected abscess on his leg which the NHS wanted to operate on, however it took them a few days to carry out the procedure because there were no available beds. He suffered terribly with this at the time, also the antibiotics were giving him…

Cheap travel destinations in Europe
Hi everyone, I am looking for cheap travel destinations within Europe. Since I save and invest a lot, I'd like some suggestions so that I can plan my holidays in advance for next year. I am looking for destinations that are particularly cheap to reach from Germany, as I've been living here for a few years. Thanks!

Too Hot To Work In The Garden?
Having spent most of the winter gazing out the window and planning my new patio/landscaping in my mind, it he time has finally come and I really don't fancy the idea of working in this heat. Is anyone else putting off work due to the heat or am I just looking for excuses?

Airbnb Rip Off
Last week I requested a 3 day booking on Airbnb but it was immediately rejected by the host. Airbnb took the full booking fee from my debit card on making the request. It is 7 days and I still haven't received the refund. The link " Track you Refund " doesn't work. It just goes to 404 Error. I have heard Airbnb can keep…

Spusu only £2.90 a month, does this come with Wifi Calling ?
Currently on 1p Mobile mainly because it uses EE and has Wifi Calling, but just found Spusu deal at £2.90 a month, which means I save £2.10 a month, not much but better than nothing if otherwise the same as 1p. Does it come with Wifi Calling and any negatives compared to 1p Mobile ?

Jam not setting
I've had a go at making strawberry jam today, and it's not setting after we've put it into jars. I don't think I had enough lemon juice to introduce pectin. If I get some more lemons tomorrow, could I reboil it with more lemon and get it to set? ETA a bit of research on line suggests this is possible. I'll have another go…

Derivatives and other complexities in Man GLG Dynamic Income
It took me a few years to get a basic understanding of bonds
– stuff about duration only really sunk in after interest rates rose in 2022 (though
by luck not judgement I mostly held short duration). The only actively managed
bond fund I hold is Man GLG Sterling Corporate Bond which has performed well since
its launch in…

Finally booked my trip to the US with daughter and got flights and hotels all organised now so just the final few extra arrangements to do. We are arriving in LA doing a couple of days there then going down to Anaheim for a couple of days and then on to San Diego before flying to NY. So I reckon I need a car for the west…

A new chapter is ....... FINALLY HERE
So i'm sloping back in with a new diary, been missing (but still reading) for 10 months, MH took a nose dive in October, all work related and quite frankly horrid. Money Moral Dilemma: How do I speak up about how shared restaurant bills are split?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks... When eating out with others, I feel I'm usually expected to split the bill evenly. Yet I don't eat meat or drink alcohol, and only take water with my meal. I'm not stingy, but feel put off eating out when expected to pay the same as others who have indulged in steaks and…

Investing and Ex Dividend
I was about to add 5K to one of my ETFs (pension) and it states that it is trading ex dividend. Does this make any difference to when you should invest, or should I just ignore it and get on with it anyway? Thanks

Car rental in Sardinia - low cost operators a bad idea?
We need to rent a car from Olbia airport for 10 days in September, and have been scanning the price comparison sites recommended on the MSE site. Obviously the best prices (by far) are from companies that I've never heard of (B-Rent, Surprice, Felirent, etc), and those companies typically get universal 1 star "scammer"…

Paying my tax bill from Santander
I need to have a little rant. Trying to pay my tax bill which is due by Thursday this week. For convenience, I thought I use "Pay by Bank" which is what HMRC call Open Banking payments. I can do this from just about every bank, and even from some Building Societies and Electronic Money Institutions but not from Santander,…
