Water Board sent us to debt collectors during a dispute.
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could give us some advice? We had to move out of our (rented) property in May this year, so we're temporarily living with family whilst we're sorting out somewhere else to live. We got a final bill from Southern Water for £237.92 which covered about 4 months, the bills before this…

South West Water CCJ Advice Please
I rented out my house in 2012 to a tenant, on leaving my old property I informed the water company who sent the final bill to my new address which was paid. Unbeknown to me, south west water sent bills to the new occupier, my tenant, which they ignored, so they went to the land registry and as I was the owner of the…

Happy!
I'm so glad we went over to a water meter with Yorkshire water. Our direct debits were £48 before the meter, this went down to £28 when the meter was fitted. Just got our first annual bill and we're due a refund and the DD has gone down to £15 a month. :T I admit to being frugal with our water and I've scanned the forum…

Water usage down, bills up, when water meter installed
I'm all in favour of water meters, they are fair - as long as the water company isn't just trying to make a quick buck when they make you get one. Our house used to be a 4-bed house with a 2-bed annexe (same address and water bill) and large garden - in one of the more affluent parts of Bristol (i.e. high rateable value).…

Water Meter and Landlord
I am currently in a flat which is unmetered. At the time of being shown round it by the agent, there was no mention made of water charges. Sadly to my cost, I forgot to check this before moving in. Is the agent/landlord obliged to reveal these things or is it up to the prospective tenant to ask? Thanks.

severn trent heavy handed tactics

This has made me really angry, I fully intend to pay…

Water Meter Increase
My house is a 3 bedroom terraced house in Southampton and there are 2 of us who live there. We used to have a fixed yearly fee of about £200. The water company gave us no choice to have a water meter fitted, and to our horror, the annual water bill is now over double at about £450 p/a. We live near the centre of…

Sudden jump in water bill
We're at a loss, For the past 5 years our water usage has been consistent, about 50 units (cubic meters) per half year, the suddenly the new October bill is 135 units? The only unusual things in the last six months have been a slight overflow leak in the toilet, which I fixed in half a day, and we've had the drive block…

In the process we moved to a new house and the buyer of the property messed us about so much the flat was empty for 4 months and then they pulled out. I was wondering if people could tell me if it's worth thinking about getting a water meter. We both work full time so we aren't there during the day using the toilet or…

The Sorry Story of a Cannabis Farm - and a Huge Water Bill
I live on the second floor of a block of nine flats. Earlier this year my downstairs neighbour got caught out with a cannabis farm. We had suspected this was going on due to the obvious smell, but despite another neighbour reporting it, the police did nothing. What I didn't know was that my flat had been leaking into his. I…

Thames Water took money from my bank a/c without permission
I recently moved out of one shared flat into another and so phoned Thames Water to close the old account and open a new one. Whilst on the phone nothing was mentionned about how I wanted to pay and so I waited for a bill. Before any bill arrived I checked my bank a/c and saw that I'd incurred charges for use of an…

Can we still apply for a meter after £100 payment?
Hello, I'm thinking of applying for a water meter to save on the water bill in our newly moved-into rented flat. Thames Water sent us a letter when we moved into the flat a couple of months ago to say that water from move-in date until March would cost £296.63. My housemate contacted them and gave them £100 up-front and…

Yay! From £43.56 to £19.33 a month - Thames Water
In our previous property (rented) our bill was initially £26 a month and then reduced to £23 a month after our first year there. In June last year, I bought a 3-bedroomed flat, and my flatmate and I moved in. Our water bill was set at £43.56 a month and when I phoned Thames Water to query it, they pretty much said that 'it…
