Bought house with meter, had bill based on RV
Hi all, I've recently bought a house in the Yorkshire Water area. The house has a water meter, but the previous owners were still billed based on rateable value. The drainage & water search commissioned by my conveyancer says that Yorkshire Water would force me on to a metered tariff after purchase. The conveyancer drew my…

Surface water drainage charge - drains to farmers field
Hi, My water bill contains an charge for "Surface water". The roof of the house has conventional gutters and downpipes which drain to a public sewer. The property has a large concreted parking area and private road, which drains to a farmer's field adjacent (and below) the property. There is no soakaway or similar - the…

Rateable value very high - property divided in 1980s
Hi, I have recently bought a 4 bedroom semi-detatched property in the Yorkshire Water area. The combined bill for fresh water and sewerage is £650pa. This seems very high to me - my previous 3-bed terrace in the same area was £220pa. I understand that I have the option to switch to metered, and that might be cheaper. For…

Ensure connection to correct meter!
If you are being connected to a water meter, ensure you are there when they do it so they can do a water stop test. I was connected in 2012 and my bills increased from 5 cubic meters to 28 in two years. I queried it constantly, as I thought I had been connected to the cottage being renovated next door. Eventually, this…

South Staffordshire Water- Messed up my garden refuse to pay compnesation
Hi South Staffordshire Water dug up my garden in order to do some maintenance. They left it dug up for a few months. When I complained and asked for £100 as gesture of goodwill they said "The new tenants didn't mention it when they called so we won't pay a penny." Very unreasonable IMHO. Anything I can do?
