Surface Water rebate with Thames Water - back claiming, is it possible?
Thames Water charges every house for Surface Water Drainage i.e. rain water. I recently discovered my next door neighbour had claimed a reduction since 2007 because our rain water goes into a soak-away. I applied and Thames Water replied “we took your word that the rainwater from your home does not drain in to our sewer”.…

checking flowon shower
Just tried checking flow rate on shower, is this the best way? Trying to figure out if I have flow restrictor on shower. Turned shower on , collected all water from shower head for the first 10 seconds, then timed that by 6, collected 1 litre, so 6 litres a min, so a 5 min shower is 30 litres, which sounds good to me?

High water bill, constantly spinning meter
Hi all, We have recently had a considerable increase in our monthly water bill due to 'high usage', from £34 to £77. We live in a flat and don't think our water usage has changed or is above average. Washing machine 2-3 times a week, Wash dishes 2x a day (No dishwasher), 2 quick morning showers and a rare bath. I checked…

Water Bill - Too High?
Hi everyone, thanks in advance for any responses. Our water bill has gone up significantly since April this year - we're on a water meter. The direct debit is now £47.33 a month. There are only 2 of us - but we are both at home all day. Our usage from 4th Apr - 17th Sept was 64 cubic meters and the bill was £250. Does this…

water standing charges
for the first time we are living in a property with a water meter, its expensive. I understand why the standing charge is made: cost of sending bills, collecting payments, dealing with enquiries, (as per the bill) I do not understand why 1) the standing charges are based on your usage? 2) there are 2 standing chgs (metered…

Immersion heater rushing water
Hi guys, This morning, as usual, I put my immersion heater on for half an hour. After this half hour had passed, I suddenly heard the sound of rushing water. I went to investigate and discovered it was coming from the cupboard where my immersion heater is. I've never seen (or heard) this before, and my water meter was…

We've lived here almost five years and it's always been around the same and nothing's changed, it's a 2 bed flat the meter is just…

Water Board sent us to debt collectors during a dispute.
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could give us some advice? We had to move out of our (rented) property in May this year, so we're temporarily living with family whilst we're sorting out somewhere else to live. We got a final bill from Southern Water for £237.92 which covered about 4 months, the bills before this…

South West Water CCJ Advice Please
I rented out my house in 2012 to a tenant, on leaving my old property I informed the water company who sent the final bill to my new address which was paid. Unbeknown to me, south west water sent bills to the new occupier, my tenant, which they ignored, so they went to the land registry and as I was the owner of the…

Happy!
I'm so glad we went over to a water meter with Yorkshire water. Our direct debits were £48 before the meter, this went down to £28 when the meter was fitted. Just got our first annual bill and we're due a refund and the DD has gone down to £15 a month. :T I admit to being frugal with our water and I've scanned the forum…

Water usage down, bills up, when water meter installed
I'm all in favour of water meters, they are fair - as long as the water company isn't just trying to make a quick buck when they make you get one. Our house used to be a 4-bed house with a 2-bed annexe (same address and water bill) and large garden - in one of the more affluent parts of Bristol (i.e. high rateable value).…

Water Meter and Landlord
I am currently in a flat which is unmetered. At the time of being shown round it by the agent, there was no mention made of water charges. Sadly to my cost, I forgot to check this before moving in. Is the agent/landlord obliged to reveal these things or is it up to the prospective tenant to ask? Thanks.

severn trent heavy handed tactics
Hi, We received a bill for approx £40 from Severn Trent dated 01/10/14, we've had a lot going on with a death and threatened redundancy so unfortunately this was forgotten.., so today, the 20/10/14 we receive a letter threatening court action if it's not paid in 14 days. This has made me really angry, I fully intend to pay…

Big water bill, but on someone else's name
Hi, We live in a shared house that we rent. over the years there were numerous people lived here and we have a bill just over £2000 and that is about 5 years of water. Its a bit twisted but i try to explain. 5 years ago 2 of the ex tenants (they already left) came over from another house and when united utilities asked…

Big water bill in new house

Water Meter Increase
My house is a 3 bedroom terraced house in Southampton and there are 2 of us who live there. We used to have a fixed yearly fee of about £200. The water company gave us no choice to have a water meter fitted, and to our horror, the annual water bill is now over double at about £450 p/a. We live near the centre of…

Sudden jump in water bill
We're at a loss, For the past 5 years our water usage has been consistent, about 50 units (cubic meters) per half year, the suddenly the new October bill is 135 units? The only unusual things in the last six months have been a slight overflow leak in the toilet, which I fixed in half a day, and we've had the drive block…

Problems with Severn Trent

Water bill for un-metered empty property
Hi, Looking for a little clarity as trying to reduce costs. We were selling our flat last year, only it fell through. In the process we moved to a new house and the buyer of the property messed us about so much the flat was empty for 4 months and then they pulled out. We have managed to rent for now to try and recoup…
