i accidentally left the water running for a whole weekend recently (48h friday till sunday afternoon), I wanted to calculate how much it costed me and how much water i've wasted..
so here it is:
i usually pay £7.2 per month in fixed charges and £10 per month in metered water.
this month the consumed water went from £10 to £25, which means that in those 3 days i wasted £15 worth of water.
Sounds like not much but looking at the actual meter i've calculated that usually we use 158 litres per day or 4750 Litres per month (2 people 2 bedroom flat). this month my consumption went to 11250 Litres, which means that in those 2 days I've wasted 6500 litres of water!
THAT'S A LOT!
btw i'm with thames water in north london.

So that's 6.5 cu m at your cu m rate-not too tricky to calculate. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Don't forget that you'll be charged for the water that went down the drain as well so add the sewerage charge for 6.5cu.m as well.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

You could ask about an allowance. As a rule of thumb they're used for leaks but they are discretionary and in my old role I quite often granted allowances for your circumstances. However they are usually one- off so if you had a large leak at some point further down the line you wouldn't usually be allowed a second allowance.0
