in Water bills
Hi all, I'm after some advice.
We've just purchased a small semi detached two bed house that is unmetered with Wessex Water.
DH contacted them to set up a direct debit and was told it was £75.36 per month for water and sewerage, as we've previously paid our water bill through flat maintenance charges he didn't have a clue about average figures and agreed.
When he mentioned to me in passing tonight that the direct debit has come through and the monthly figures I almost fainted! The in laws are round the corner (also unmetered) and pay substantially less than this for a three bed detached.
Am I right in thinking this is too much?

It is highly unlikely that a 2 bed semi will have a bill anything like as high as that.
You don't say when you moved in, but is it possible the bill is for the period back to April and the £75.36 is to pay off the 4 or 5 months arrears and payments due to March?
The charges are here:

So you need to find out your Rateable Value and you can work out your annual bill.0 -

Then why not have a meter installed (assuming that the supplier does not install one anyway on change of occupant, as they are entitled to do)? Then revert to RV billing within the first 12 months if it is no cheaper. It's a no-brainer, you cannot lose.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

3 bed semi non metered i was paying £575 pa .
On a water meter its about £225 .
As said with the option after twelve months to revert .
£1000 a year may not be that far out as i know some pay that sort of figure on the old rateable value system .0
