in Water bills
I had a huge shock today when i checked my experian credit file, i have spent the last few years getting all my finances in order so that we can move house next year. Only to find this default!!!!
Public Utility from United Utilities Water Ltd (I)

StatusDefaulted
Current Balance£ 1,881
Start Balance£ 0
Credit Limit£ 0
Default / Delinquent Balance£ 1,679
Start Date17/09/2003
Date Updated05/05/2015
Date Last Delinquent
As you can see i have copied the default info straight from Experian, the problem i have is i moved out of the property in 2005, i know i contacted them as i did with everyone else.
I have spoken to them today to ask what they are playing at putting a default on my account 10 years after i left the property, their response was the account was still in my name!!
So basically they are telling me for the last 10 years who ever has lived there since have not informed them, and they state i have lived there all this time!!! Oh and the last payment that is showing on the account is November 2005.....
I have contacted my local council for a copy of my council tax bill dated December 2005 for proof of when i moved.
Having looked on here for advice, it looks like even though i haven't lived there all this time it would have been statute barred in 2011 anyway?
I can't imagine getting this default removed is going to plain sailing or is it..........anyone had experience of this, what is the best way forward.
Thank you in advance for you help!

If you had contacted UU when you moved and fully paid up the account, then UU need to take responsibility.
Write to them, explain the situation, and ask them to sort it out with Experian and copy you with the correspondence.
If you get no satisfaction from UU then contact the Consumer Council For Water.0 -
And don't forget, never EVER provide water companies with personally identifiable information or previous addresses etc. Just let them know you by surname only, or better; "The Occupier".0

Send UU a copy of the final bill they sent you when you moved out.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I have not got the final bill UU sent me, this was 10 years ago, i keep documents for 6 years then shred!!
I don't see how they can chase me for any amounts as it has been so long, but i can see it isn't going to be easy getting the default removed, really angry!!0 -
statute barred by now, surely?breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??0

statute barred by now, surely?
That is what i thought, i now have a copy of the exemption certificate from my council which took effect from 22/12/05 so i will provide that should i need to.......
Do i now send UU a statute barred letter also asking them to remove the default they have decided to place on my credit file!?0
