The Easy Way to Make Your Cutlery shiny
Place your cutlery in bowl, covering with cold/warm water (you decide) taking care not to add too much vinegar plus small amount of washing up liquid, preferably cheap(!). Using a cloth, mix all ingredients well and wash. You might want to wear gloves, if you have any cuts on your fingers/hands. After washing, either leave…

2022 Fashion On The Ration Challenge
Welcome to the village hall of Much Mending on the Borrow, where it is perpetually 1942. We’ve just finished the village Fun Run and the runners are discussing their times. There’s a fire in the wood-stove, tea brewing in the pot and cakes to share. Don’t mind Scruffy-dog on the hearth rug, or Jess, the cat, on the…

How many years should we keep paperwork?work
I'm not a hoarder as such but, how long do you all keep historic paperwork for bills, old cars, house repairs, etc. I'm not talking about legal paperwork such as insurance, house purchase & solicitors and current documents. I'm talking more about previous gas and electricity companies, Virgin media, and insurance documents…

Weekly Flylady Thread 16th January 2023
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Cracked lips stuff - what was it called?
You used to be able to get some marvelous cream that cured cracked lips and whatnot. It came in a small metal tube, it smelled of ammonia, and at some point maybe 15 years ago it changed its name. Then next thing I knew it disappeared from the shops. What was it called? And is there anything like it still available?

The water itself doesn’t appear to smell…

Lakeland 6l slow cooker - replacement pot?
I've been very happy with my Lakeland 6l slow cooker, bought to replace an old one about 5 years ago, IIRC. But sadly the pot has developed a little crack, which has now started to leak onto the base. I've just been onto their website to order a replacement - the availability of which was one factor in choosing it in the…
