metric gas meter being billed as imperial
My gas meter is metric, but every time I change supplier they always bill reading as imperial, always takes months to persuade them, with hours of explanations, photos of meter, etc. etc. Is there a central meter register that can be amended? How can I ensure a new supplier knows meter is metric?

An installer…

Cost of Central Heating
Hi all, We've recently moved into our first home. It's a 1955 2-bed semi-detached bungalow, with cavity wall insulation, fibreglass loft insulation (between roof joists), and polystyrene board roof insulation (between roof rafters). We have a Potterton Profile 40e conventional boiler. I think it was installed around 25…

Moving into a new home - housing association
Good afternoon. I've just moved into a new build property owned by housing association. They gave me phone number to eon and meter reading to phone them and sort out the bill for me as a tenant. When I ring them I will be most likely put into standard, most expensive tariff. Should I instead go through Cheap energy club or…

Keep solid fuel CH or replace with electric?
We live in a rural semi. We currently have solid fuel heating, using a multi-fuel stove. We have looked at all the alternatives. The only other option is an electric wet system. We can’t have any other option due to external space and construction. We have insulated as much as possible. Solid fuel = messy, requires filling…

Oil filled radiators
I own a one bed flat and I'm thinking of replacing the two wall mounted panel heaters (both Stiebel Eltron CNS 200s) that we have in the lounge and bedroom respectively with wall mounted oil filled electric radiators with thermostats so that they kick in when the temperature gets below a certain levek. Is this my best…

Heat pump to replace Economy 7?
Hi All I am looking for some advice, if you can help. My mother currently has Economy 7 storage heating in her home (she has under floor heating in the kitchen), which is both expensive and inefficient in heating her home and we are looking at an alternative heating system. There is no gas supply on the estate, so a boiler…

Air source heat pump costing loads in electricity.
I'm hoping someone here might have some ideas for us before we're broke or frozen! We moved into a house in June last year, it's a 1930s semi but with a new extension making it a 4 bed. 1700sq ft. Its got an air source heat pump and underfloor heating throughout and it's been great all summer with solar panels for the…

Old storage heaters again
After a frustrating search in the web and calls to Dimplex sellers/customer services/technical department I was unable to determine the wattage of a 12-15 year old storage heater without knowing the model, which, I was told can only be found "by opening it" (!!!!). The beast measures 78.5cm x 69cm from the floor and in a…

Single person, 2 bed bungalow - size of LPG tank?
Hello, Is there anyone out there who could give me an idea as to what LPG tank capacity would be recommended for a person living alone in an off-grid 2 bed bungalow? Or could point me in the direction of relevant websites? I'm used to mains gas so this is all new to me. According to my last dual fuel statement, I used…

Are Avro Energy Mis-Selling?
My energy plan was due to end in January. Prior to this in December Avro emailed me with a renewal quote which was reducing my bills from £122 per month to £77...using the last years consumption figures I checked the energy club and it looked like they were on par with what was out there so decided to stay and accept. £77…

Best alternative to gas central heating in 3 storey house with an old boiler and microbore pipes
So, the boiler is very old and will likely need replacing soon. Bearing in mind, the new regulations against gas boilers - I am investigating my options. I am not sure that a heat pump would work in my property as I have microbore pipes (extra small pipes) that tend to clog easily. Ideally, I would like to bypass the…

They put too much oil in the tank
I recently ordered 500ltr of home heating oil via boiler juice. The oil company allocated delivered on time. A couple of days later they called me and said they'd delivered 700ltrs ( 200 more by mistake). I cannot visually confirm this and there's no paperwork. They are hastling me for payment and say they'll send proof…

Best way forward for heating and hot water
Hi, we bought our house in October 2019. It has an electric heating system, with radiators and a hot water tank. There is no mains gas in the area. The hot water tank looks like it was put in by an amateur as it is lopsided, and when it fills with water, it starts to overflow. We don't ever switch the heating on as we were…

155kwh per day on average for gas? Is that normal?
Hi, I have just recently started taking over the household expenses from my mother. I'm very unfamiliar with energy bills as this I'd the first time I've ever dealt with them.
