Exploded my Clearview Pioneer 400 - Help please
Who knew that pistachio shells could explode a stove? Well, as of a few days ago, that's me. The kaboom cracked the glass and the fire ran away with itself. I let it die down and replaced the glass no problems, but the secondary air control slide still doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have any guidance on how I access the…

Firewood seasoning.
I had a bulk bag's worth of 'seasoned' ash delivered last weekend; although it sounded rather hollow, it was awful to burn and the ends became visibly damp as moisture was driven out. I split a piece and dug out a moisture meter - it reads around 38% in the centre. After a harsh disagreement we've gone our separate ways…

VAT chargeable on second-hand multi-fuel burner?
Just had a refurbished multi-fuel burner installed by a local stove company. We know they took it out and supplied a new one to another customer so effectively they obtained it free i.e. no VAT. Appreciate they needed to buy parts (multi-fuel converter kit, fire bricks, etc.) to refurbish it so VAT will have been levied on…

Stove advice please :)
Hi, moved into a property yesterday with a multi-fuel stove. Leant on it today and it wobbled - looked behind it and the pipe out the back is rusted with a hole in it! :( Can anyone advise what we do - was hoping to have this working soon (after a chimney sweep) as the boiler is currently broken too! :confounded:

Solar Panel quote seems high
Hi, Today we had a quote for £11,100 for 16 Solar Panels and battery with Project Solar (apparently it would've been more but we were in the last day of Black Friday sale and got battery free). We have a south facing garden and no shade - we have a detached property and with a recent loft conversion, 6 bedrooms. We have 4…

New gas boiler, am I being ripped off.
last week I had a new gas boiler fitted only to find that some of my radiators aren’t getting hot. I have been told that the system needs balancing and I need new thermostatic controls on the radiators. I am happy to pay for them as the existing ones aren’t thermostatic and they are rusty and sticking. My question is…

Economy 7 hot water not working during off-peak times
Hi, first time posting here. I’m on an Economy 7 tariff, but up until recently only used it to heat my storage heaters, but never used it to heat water overnight as I just use the electric shower whenever I need it. I had the boost timer to come on at 7pm for half an hour to heat the water so I could do the washing…

Boiler still not repaired. Help
We have a Glow Worm Betacom 30c boiler. About two weeks ago the boiler was losing pressure over night so we had to top up. Then the radiator/heating wasn't heating up. Just turning over. Insurance company (boiler cover) sent an Engineer. He fitted a new PRV and a electrode (right one of the 3). He left before testing it…

Metered estate
I live on a metered estate and our LPG gas is supplied by Flogas, we are on an uncontracted rate of 64p a cubic litre - which I’m quite confident is very high. There are 10 other apartments where I live. Am I right in thinking that I can’t change provider and don’t really have a leg to stand on in terms of how much they…

Hints and tips on managing central heating run by multifuel stove please
As title really! I've moved into a house with a Hunter Herald stove which runs heating and hot water and could really do with some hints on the best way of managing the system. I can light the stove and get it going fine but not sure how to work the primary and secondary controls to best heat the radiators. The chimney…

Boiler needs servicing or replacing.
We have a Baxi solo 3 pfl 40 which we have had for around 20 years and is now playing up . The boiler works and fires up on the fused switch near the timer switch but doesn’t work on the timer switch , so we get hot water and C/H at the same time , we cannot have one without the other so be the 2 port valves (maybe) on l…

Solar
I have a question. On buying a house I was told I would get the excess energy sent to the grid from the solar panels and be paid for it. On moving in I have been told there is no storage so it only supplies my home. To say I am upset is understating it. Is there anything I can do to upgrade them and is there a timescale to…
