EDF - What action can I take
Long story short, I live on a small holding in very rural Wales, I am in receipt of disability benefits and live alone. My supplier was Isupply. First few bills over £100 a month, then they rapidly escalated every month eventually hitting over £750 for one month. Started a complaint with Isupply. They told me to get an…

Who to approach for a breakdown of new boiler costs and available options (electric, solar, wind)?
I'm currently pondering whether it's worth replacing my oil fired boiler for something 'cleaner' (I can't get gas, I'm not near a supply line) - is there a single, unbiased, trustworthy agency / body that I could contact who would come out, assess my property and requirements and give me full cost breakdowns of all the…

Electric usage
Hi I'm looking for a bit of advice around how to cut my electric bills. We live in a 1980s country cottage with electric heating. We have no access to gas. We've lived here for 3 years and it's always been expensive to run the heating but we've accepted it for so long. When the survey was carried out, the boiler had an F…

Trouble with NPower
I have an ongoing issue with NPower. The case was sent to the ombudsman and they agreed that although I have an outstanding bill with Npower (very high as built up in out of contract rates) I am able to leave as I had paid up to the contract end date. Still with a bill to pay but not needing to be with NPower anymore.…

Exploded my Clearview Pioneer 400 - Help please
Who knew that pistachio shells could explode a stove? Well, as of a few days ago, that's me. The kaboom cracked the glass and the fire ran away with itself. I let it die down and replaced the glass no problems, but the secondary air control slide still doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have any guidance on how I access the…

Firewood seasoning.
I had a bulk bag's worth of 'seasoned' ash delivered last weekend; although it sounded rather hollow, it was awful to burn and the ends became visibly damp as moisture was driven out. I split a piece and dug out a moisture meter - it reads around 38% in the centre. After a harsh disagreement we've gone our separate ways…

VAT chargeable on second-hand multi-fuel burner?
Just had a refurbished multi-fuel burner installed by a local stove company. We know they took it out and supplied a new one to another customer so effectively they obtained it free i.e. no VAT. Appreciate they needed to buy parts (multi-fuel converter kit, fire bricks, etc.) to refurbish it so VAT will have been levied on…

Stove advice please :)
Hi, moved into a property yesterday with a multi-fuel stove. Leant on it today and it wobbled - looked behind it and the pipe out the back is rusted with a hole in it! :( Can anyone advise what we do - was hoping to have this working soon (after a chimney sweep) as the boiler is currently broken too! :confounded:

Solar Panel quote seems high
Hi, Today we had a quote for £11,100 for 16 Solar Panels and battery with Project Solar (apparently it would've been more but we were in the last day of Black Friday sale and got battery free). We have a south facing garden and no shade - we have a detached property and with a recent loft conversion, 6 bedrooms. We have 4…

New gas boiler, am I being ripped off.
last week I had a new gas boiler fitted only to find that some of my radiators aren’t getting hot. I have been told that the system needs balancing and I need new thermostatic controls on the radiators. I am happy to pay for them as the existing ones aren’t thermostatic and they are rusty and sticking. My question is…

Economy 7 hot water not working during off-peak times
Hi, first time posting here. I’m on an Economy 7 tariff, but up until recently only used it to heat my storage heaters, but never used it to heat water overnight as I just use the electric shower whenever I need it. I had the boost timer to come on at 7pm for half an hour to heat the water so I could do the washing…
