Falling foul of the PSA - Self Assesment?
With 2 months to go it looks like I am going to fall foul of the 40% PSA cliff edge. My gross salary will be £49K and some change, then with around £1K in savings earnings. Combined I'm just going to tip into 40% bracket. Not the £100k plus trap, but annoying none the less. What's the easiest way to resolve it? I can't up…

Accessing Junior ISA for Adult with severe learning disabilities - Court of Protection?
My 16 year old son has severe learning disabilities from birth and no ability to make decisions. He has around £7k in a child ISA and I am wondering what the best thing is to do for him when he turns 18. He will be dependent for life but we are hoping to buy a property with an annex for him so he has a little independence…

Your excess solar generation exported to the grid could attract HMRC interest. However....
Just read this and it poses some questions... https://www.homebuilding.co.uk/eco-homes/solar-panels/uk-solar-panel-owners-could-face-hmrc-fine There are potentially a number of caveats and nuances here however for a couple who have installed solar: 1. There are two £1000 trading allowances available to offset export…

Help me understand the timing of fund sales
Using interactive investor, I put in a sale request of VLS 80 at 2:44 pm on the 16th - last Friday. I know I had missed the cut-off for the Friday evening NAV, but I totally expected to get the Monday evening NAV. The sale just completed today and it has used Tuesday evening NAV although showing the date and time of the…

TUI changed my flight times
We should be flying to Turkey in June 2026 to the same hotel we stayed at last year. A couple of weeks ago, TUI contacted us to say they were changing our return flight time from 4:55pm to 9:35am which I wasn't too concerned about as we just want to get home on our return day. However, on Friday, I had another email from…

Why my income tax has been calculated yet for 6 April 2023 to 5 April 2024?
I have just logged into my HMRC account and noticed that my income tax has not yet been calculated for the period from 6 April 2023 to 5 April 2024. I filed a Self Assessment for the 2022–2023 tax year, but not for 2023–2024, as it was not required. Should I contact HMRC to get this sorted, even though I was advised not…

Mortice lock is stuck in door
I have some hollow core doors which need new mortice locks as the keys have been lost. It's been easy enough to swap similar doors in the past but I've found that these appear to be stuck, if not glued in. Tried pulling on one and the door started to separate. Just thought I'd post here in case anyone had any insights on…

Doing tax return, questions about different income sources
I've worked out after deducting expenses from income on self employed work I earned £250. I worked for two companies mainly. I think first didn't pay my tax (not sure) but second did. Do I input these figures in photo from my P60 into my tax return? Are they from the two companies? As well as my self employed income or do…

Cesspit or septic tank
Hi everyone, I have come on before looking advice regarding drainage and am pleased to say we got the drainage sorted out our back yard to a new soakaway at front. However, we were then required to put in a new septic tank soakaway as the sewage kept backing up under the house and it was believed original soakaway couldnt…

Reviews of Exp UK Estate agent for buying
Anyone bought a property via Exp UK? I've read really bad reviews around how they basically encourage bidding wars, e.g. telling a buyer their offer has been accepted, then going back to other buyers and asking for best and final bids. There's an open day on a property I want to view, and I'm told there's already a…
