Reclaim bank & credit card charges

My wife had a cheque issued in July 2014 via CPP which she failed to pay into her account. She tried calling CPP but they claimed as over 6 months have passed they cannot issue a new cheque. Is this worth pursuing? She only spoke to the person who answered the phone initially.

So after months of searching old accounts, old premium bonds, share companies I have come to a complete blank. Looks like I will have to roll over and give Treethorpe the 1/3 they are asking to give me MY money !! MSE always says do not pay anyone to track your money but when all else fails whet is left ??
