Large family? What food could I take
I'm visiting my daughter for Xmas and she's a very tired lady with 7 children and an excellent partner. She works part time and barely has a minutes peace. She's not even got time to message a lot of the time, so I'm asking you what foods - edit - offerings- I could take , as a mum that might be welcomed. I'm taking a big…

Ive looked online but I cant see how to actually cook with it! Do I use it like a normal oven? With a chicken dish (for example) I would put it in…

Drying clothes
I know this has been asked many times before, so I apologise in advance. Drying my washing indoors is being a real problem. I have the washed clothes on an airier in my spare room, with the window left open about an inch. T-shirts I put on a hanger and hang from the curtain rail, but even they can take 2/3 days to dry. I'm…

Weekly Flylady Thread 12th December 2022
WOOHOO IT IS 🎄 ....DECEMBER.....🎄 . Welcome to the weekly Flylady
Thread. What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea -
but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be
time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on
Old Style to provide the…

Microwave Heat Pads
Argos sells a "Fleece Wheat Warmer" for £8. You heat them in the microwave and then they are supposed to help with aches and pains. Touch wood, I don't have too many aches and pains yet, but does anyone use these as a simple way of keeping the chill off during this cold spell? It would certainly be cheaper than running the…

Slow cooker & cold temperatures
Looks like slow cookers don't cope well with very cold weather! yesterday I cooked chicken casserole & it was on for hours. Started with hot veg, chicken & liquid. About 8 hours later I ate some of it: first time ever the meat didn't fall off the bones, it didn't seem that hot, chicken was cooked but not that tender..…

Vaccuum storage bags
Anyone got any recommendations for really good ones? I’ve had mine for a few years. They have always gradually sucked in air but over months. One now won’t seal at all, the others seem to seal but suck in air and return to normal size almost immediately. I want to store a duvet and pillows.

Best mince pie recipe ever
There was a recipe somewhere for the best mince pie pastry ever and I had it saved but try as I can I just can't find it. I used to be on laptop but now I'm on my phone and I can't seem to navigate my way around the site like I did on the laptop. Could anybody point me to the recipe pretty please? I've had a rubbish day 😔…

What's your 'cheapest' diet?
This is for people on maybe £10 a week or less for food. Per person. I know this sounds bad but it's a fact of life. Apart from visiting the food bank, here's mine (excluding 'reduced') Spaghetti hoops with microwaved potato. Porridge oats (either raw or cooked if I can afford to top up the Lecky)One banana (per day)Tinned…

Christmas veg special this year?
I remember last year and perhaps the proceeding one most of the supermarket chains did a special on winter veg (potatoes being particularly handy) all at around 20p a bag. Is there any news or word whether the same thing will happen this year? I want to prepare some space so I can stock up if this happens!!!!

Food Shopping in modern times
Rather a sensitive topic, would you call £700 for two people enough for only food shopping, I think I know the answer, however, I would like people's comments by the way this was in 2014.
