Hate Waste
Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but keeping lettuce in a sealed box (Tupperware type) in a fridge will prolong its life for several weeks. We buy iceberg and that will still be fresh for at least 3 weeks.

Changing to LED bulbs
I've got low energy light bulbs in my home all bought new when I moved in 3 years ago. Is it worth the outlay to buy LED equivalents and replace them all?

Dried apricots, not ready to eat
I am looking for old fashioned dried apricots that need soaking. I could only find the ready to eat version in my local Sainsbury. Are they still available and if so, which supermarket sells them.

Stains not coming out of washing, detergent or machine at fault?
Despite pre treating stains and washing on 30’ using Almat bio gel with stain light my stains are not coming out. I’m using a BEKO washing machine on a mixed fabric setting, not over loading. My washing machine is about 7 years old and has recently been adding ‘time’ on to programs? I have cleaned my filter, the seal is…

How do proper grown ups grocery shop?
I have noticed (finally) that I grocery shop in the same way as I clothes shop - I buy items not outfits. Or, I buy bits of food not actual meals. I've never meal planned before as it always felt too hard with me & my husband working different shifts. I now work Monday to Friday 9-5 so really want to figure out the…

Weekly Flylady Thread 12th September 2022
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole…

Old Style Daily Sunday 18 September 2022
Morning all. Despite my hopes I had another wretched night, it's most odd as I feel perfectly well. If there was anything really nasty going on I'd feel awful so ill keep drinking flat coke. Yesterday a passing neighbour stopped for a chat and then kindly humped my suitcase upstairs for me. I was very grateful as I…

Antique freezer containers!
At this time of year I am busy processing produce from my veg patch, for the freezer, for use over the winter. I noticed that a competition closing date on one of my recycled buttery spread containers was 28th February 1991. (Seven years older than my DS) Unfortunately, this highlights the problem with plastics going into…
