Quaker. Microwave Porridge
Hi all I have 2 minute rolled oats in the morning. I have 2 of those small packets with milk, Don’t add sugar or any other toppings. Is there a similar supermarket own brand which is just a nice and creamy that will cook in 2 minutes. And cheaper.

The elderflower is out, so a few of us went elderflower picking yesterday evening in the sunshine. Here is some of it, steeping with sugar water, lemon juice and rind, on its way to becoming cordial. I'll keep it in the freezer so it could also be used as sorbet. We'll be attempting fizzy wine with the rest, but previous…

Loose covers for sofa
I have a 3-seater and a 2-seater sofa that I need to cover. They are eight years old and in a terrible state as they are faux leather (the first and last time I'll buy faux leather!) However they are really very comfortable. Of course I will have to replace them before too long but in the meantime I might just get loose…

Using up spread / alternative to butter in pastry
We use a lot of butter in our house and with the prices rising I've been looking for lower cost alternatives. I bought some supermarket own brand value type spread, and we aren't keen on it, although do like the spreadable butter type spreads in sandwiches. Would the cheapo oily spread work in short crust pastry? I usually…

Weekly Flylady Thread 20 June 2023
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole…
