Belt loops for the sewing challenged?
I’ve bought some Next trousers from the charity shop and it’s only now I’ve got them home and it’s too late to return them that I’ve I realised there’s no belt loop. I’m hoping that when I shorten them, there will be enough material to use that matches. Can anyone point me in the direction of idiots guides as to the best…

Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. We often see new flyers (gents welcome!) around this time of year so please don't worry if you feel you cannot keep up. Similarly if your house has been neglected it won't be turned around in a day - but if you stay you will get into some good habits which do help! Happy flying. What…

Sourdough Bread
I hope there might be someone here who can help me! I have been trying to make sourdough bread recently and have been largely unsuccessful. The first attempt didn't rise at all. The second rose but had a HUGE hole in the top of the bread, so it was 90% air bubble and not in an attractive, sourdough way. Today's attempt has…

Silicone cake moulds/trays
I am just tidying out my baking tins cupboard. I have come across a heart shaped silicone cake mould which I picked up in an Aldi sale one year for 20p. I thought it would be nice to make OH a cake. I have never used silicone moulds before. Do I need to grease it like a cake tin? Is the cooking time/ temperature the same?…

Filling but cost effective lunch
When I first started working my mum would make me a packed lunch. It consisted of 4 croissants, a chocolate bar, a packet of crisps, a cereal bar, a cake bar, a rice krispie square, a yoghurt and a pot of jelly. I may have missed something (was 20+ years ago). It was filling but I also felt terrible when going back to work…

Recipe for Impossible pie please
Hello MSE'rs I can't find my recipe for Impossible Pie - the pudding where all ingredients get mixed together and when it's cooked the layers separate - just like magic. I would like to make it with my granddaughter but cannot find my recipe anywhere! It's not where it should be, where it could be or even in a safe place…

weekly Flylady Thread 29 January 2024
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Irish Tea Loaf
Talking about authentic recipes is always a minefield, so apologies in advance. And I realise 'authentic' is also a tricky concept. However, I've had a handed down tea loaf recipe for ages but have noticed lately that it's somehow not as good as I remember it or my tastebuds have changed perhaps. Mine is quite a simple…

out of date chilled cookie dough
My partner in his infinite wisdom bought some chilled cookie dough weeks ago. Reminded me this morning about it. We gloss over why he didn't cook it. Any how, looking at it, it went out of date on the 22nd of jan.I have looked at the packet and it does not seem to contain egg. Not sure if I should bin or cook it and hope…
